"So, you're asking me to be your fake girlfriend? How long will this relationship last, exactly?" I was staring into the brown eyes of Zack Benson, the jock who had pulled me aside before school had started this morning. Zack and I don't really socialize much. I mean, he was part of the football team here at Silverton High School, and I was just the typical quiet girl who feared too much attention from others. I wasn't exactly the class loser, but I guess you could consider me a nerd. I love reading books and didn't think school was that bad of a place to be.
"Maybe a month at the most. You can either be my girlfriend, or we can just spread a rumor that I got in your pants last Friday after the game." With that he winks, stepping closer to me. I'm suddenly disgusted with him. But this was Zack. He was the one who made sexual jokes and references, then had girls hanging on his arm to prove his "manhood." But not me, I'm not into that kind of stuff.
"Sorry to disappoint, Zack, but I'm not like Scarlet." I smirk with that statement. Last year Zack and Scarlet were caught fumbling around with each other in the middle school locker room. I would say Scarlet was my friend, but that's asking too much. There were times where I could stand her presence, then others where I wish she would disappear into thin air.
"Please, Blynn? Riley and Forest are on my last nerve with them flaunting their relationship everywhere. Pleeeease? I'm dying here!"
Well, that part was true; Riley and Forest have been basically on top of each other since they started dating 2 weeks ago. It's been all over Facebook, Instagram, and even Twitter. Forest doesn't even have a Twitter account! So, not only did Zack want to shut them up, I realized I did too. Why? Riley is convinced everyone loves and adores her, and she's convinced everything about her is perfect. Snobbish, I know.
But there had to be some other way than "hooking up" with Zack just for his sake. What exactly is in it for me? Well, I guess getting even with Riley for how she treated me last year. When we were Sophomores, me and Riley were in a love/hate relationship. One day we'd be the best of friends, carpooling to lunch together, then the next we're getting into an immature argument on Facebook. So I guess there was a bright side to this. Plus, since her and Forest were in a relationship, she's acted different. Riley always thought she was the shit, but it's never been this bad.
"Hun, if you were dying, I'd be calling the paramedics right now. And you're not currently suffering of a heart attack or stroke, so you're not dying. Look, I'll be your fake girlfriend for a month, but on one condition." I sigh heavily. I somehow cannot believe I had the confidence to agree to this.
"Anything, I swear!" He says with his pleading eyes.
"I don't want to hear any perverted comments or anything that would gross me out and make me feel disrespected or uncomfortable. Got it?" I was standing my ground. No way would I want to be "in a relationship" with someone who was commenting on a girl's "rack" every time we past one. Plus, Zack was a true player when he wanted to be. One day he'd be making out with some dirty blonde, then the next he'll show up to school telling his football buddies how he got it on with some kinky redhead the night before. It was just sick and annoying. However, he did say he'd do anything to take away Forest's position as Riley's boyfriend.
Zack falls quiet as the first bell rings. "It's a deal." He says, shaking my hand as we go our separate ways.
When I walked down the hall and into my first period class, which was budgeting, I was greeted by my two best friends; Elena and Addison. And the first thing that flew out of Addison's mouth caught me by surprise.
"Why didn't you tell us you were talking to Zack?! And now y'all are dating?! I thought we were supposed to tell each other everything...what happened?"
It was true; the three of us had sworn to tell each other everything. I look into Addie's crystal blue eyes, her dirty blonde hair pulled up in a ponytail. Elena had recently died her hair blonde, which was the perfect shade to match her brown eyes. Elena had a dash of freckles covering her nose and spreading outwards towards her cheeks. Anyone would be stupid enough not to consider these 2 girls as pretty.
"We're not..." realizing my volume was too high, I quieted down to a whisper. "We're not dating. Well, we sort of are but it isn't real. We're faking it."
"Why? I didn't think you would have anything to do with him." Addison looks confused, and I take a glance at Elena, only to see she's wearing the same expression.
"Because he's jealous of Riley being with Forest. So he's trying to play her little game by firing the envy right back at her." As soon as I finished my sentence, Riley walked in with Forest. Wait, I thought Forest wasn't in this class?
"Okay well, I'll see you at lunch." Riley giggles girlishly. I just roll my eyes; perky couples make me sick.
"Yeah, have a nice class, babe," Forest says quickly before pecking a kiss on her cheek. He then walks out as Riley calls "You too, baby!" over her shoulder. I suddenly felt nauseous as she took her seat at the table across from mine, Elena's, and Addison's.
"Wait wait wait...so...you and Zack are going to fake a relationship until she wants him back? Wow. Who would've thought, our little Blynn baby is growing up and finally putting a bitch in her place." Addison tries to be as quiet as possible.
"Yep." I agree, taking my seat beside her.
"So you and him are together?" Elena finally chimes in; she's always been the quiet bashful type. It might be because she's so blonde that she's scared she'll say something wrong. Which I don't see why, normally when Elena says something ditzy, she just laughs when someone tells her she isn't right about something.
"Yes. Me and Zack are together now." I smirk and wink at her, making sure my voice projects behind me, just so Riley could hear me. But Elena, her crazy-self, just looks at me confused. I should've known better, throwing a wink at Elena would only confuse her.
"So you and Zack are dating, huh?" Riley's squeaky voice pipes up from behind me. I turn to face her green eyes and wavy blonde hair. Her eyebrows shoot up, searching for an answer as her forehead crinkles.
"Yeah," I smile at her, "he asked me out this morning."
"Well, I'm surprised he went after you. He usually goes for one night stands and slutty girls, but maybe he's different now."
"I think he is different." I state, ready for the first attack. "He hasn't made any inappropriate comments. He's actual been a real gentleman about everything and hasn't asked anything of me. So he is different." Smiling as if I'm reflecting a nice memory, she turns her head just as our first period teacher starts to talk. Operation Break Up is a go.
