*Caden’s p.o.v.*

“Mom!” I was standing in my kitchen arguing with my mother, Helen. She had seen my phone wallpaper as a picture of me and Blynn from last night, and completely freaked out. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling she’s going to tell me. “What’s so wrong with me talking to Blynn?” Well, besides the fact that she’s your best friend’s “girlfriend”. But other than that, I don’t know what my mom has against her. She’s never had a conversation with Blynn in her life! What was her deal?

“I don’t trust her. She’s a bitch, just like her mother.”

“Why don’t you trust her?” I ask her bitterly. It was killing me to not know why my mother would call Blynn a bitch without even associating with her.

“Because,” my mother sighs into her hands before turning around and facing away from me. What was her problem?

“Because what, mother?”

“Because… her mom and your dad used to date. She was the one who took your father away from me back when we were all in high school.”

“But that doesn’t matter, mom! That was what? 20 years ago? So what! You and dad were bound to break apart anyway, considering he’s all the way in Atlanta Georgia right now! And just because you were jealous of some high school fling that went on between Blynn’s mom and my dad, doesn’t mean you can hold a grudge against Blynn for it! She didn’t do anything, you don’t even know her to begin with!” I grab my phone from the countertop and walk out of the back door, dialing the number I had earned last night. Standing on the pier overlooking the lake, the morning air seemed a little more crisp than usual. I could see my breath fogging into a cloud in front of me as the phone rang. When she answered, I held the clouds in my mouth, scared of exhaling too aggressively. I smiled a little at the sound of Blynn’s tired voice, swallowing the air in my mouth, and spoke to her.

“Hey, Blynn.”

“...Hi,” I knew by that small little greeting that she wasn’t completely awake yet.

“What are you doing today?”

“Well, if you would’ve waited 30 minutes, I would’ve been getting ready for church. But other than that I’m not doing anything. Why? You want that date already?” She sounded cute, the shock and weariness mixing together as she spoke. I couldn’t wait to see her all dressed up in her Sunday best.

“Uhhh...I guess you could say that. I was hoping to go out. Need someone to go to church with you this morning?” Nervous for her response, I waited for her answer as soon as the words skyrocketed from my mouth.

“Sure. If you don’t mind going, then I’d love for you to go. Be here in about 30 minutes?” Blynn asks me, still sounding a bit drowsy.

“Yeah totally. See you in a bit.” I bid my goodbye and hung up the phone, making my way back to the house to get ready for the long day ahead of me. I didn’t care though, I liked Blynn. She was...different. And I was ready for anything and everything that would happen while with Blynn. Because behind that quiet little girl on the other end of the phone, was most likely someone as adventurous as climbing a mountain for the first time.

*Blynn’s p.o.v.*

“What do I wear? Caden will be here any minute now!” I currently had my closet sprawled out all over my bed, while me and Addison were trying to find the perfect outfit for this morning’s services. She had come over to tell me about her argument with her brother, but when she showed up she found me sitting on my closet floor, overly-stressing about my choice of wardrobe.
