"Hey babe," Zack greets me as I'm leaning against my maroon Dodge Ram, waiting for Elena and Addison so we can go to lunch together.
"Ha...that's funny. What do you want?" I force a quick laugh as Zack takes a step towards me, putting his hands on either side, leaning them against my truck as if to set a trap.
"Nothing. I just saw the happy couple on their way over so I figured we could put on our first act."
"Too late for that." I say as I look to my right. Here comes Riley and Forest, hand in hand, making their way to Forest's blue Dodge Durango.
"What does that mean?" Zack asks me.
"Well, this morning in first period, I had to convince Riley that we were so happy together; that you had changed since being with her and you were being such a gentleman towards me." I smirk at him. The happy couple were about 10 yards away from us.
Zack closes the space in between us, and makes his way to my ear. "Giggle..." he whispers lightly. I try my best to come off as girly and ditzy. I tried to imitate the laugh Riley did earlier this morning with Forest. Zack pokes me in my side, below my rib cage, sending my voice into a high pitched squeal. It was pretty convincing, because Riley turned her head to see what was going on, only to see it was just me and Zack being playful and whatnot. She just rolled her eyes before getting into Forest's car.
Bingo.
"What time are you coming back to school?" Zack pulls my attentions back to him, and I gaze into his eyes for a split second before lightly smiling at him.
"Uhhh, I don't know. Why?"
"Because, there are a couple of people I want you to meet." He says before backing up and walking over to his green Chevy.
"Don't miss me too much!" I call out to him before unlocking my doors. Zack looks back at me before looking over at the blue car pulling out of it's parking spot, windows down and everything.
"Always." he chimes back before climbing into his truck. I look around to see the parking lot full of trucks. We were from Texas; if you didn't drive a truck, then you were wishing you did. If you were neither of those options, then you were obviously not from around here. Like Forest, for example. He moved here from Boston with his little blue car. But if he were born here, raised here, he would have that southern accent like the rest of us, and he would probably be driving a pickup. But to everyone here in Silverton, Texas, he was like a foreign exchange student from Germany or something like that. It wasn't often we received visitors from Yankeeland.
"Ahem!" I hear from behind me. Addison and Elena got my attention as they made their way to their side of the truck. "Are we ready?" I asked them before turning the keys in the ignition.
"Yep." They both say at the same time.

After scarfing down sandwiches and dragging ourselves back to school, we were all making our way to the main building. Addison was blabbering about her dad's new 22, when she couldn't finish her sentence because someone was trying to get my attention. I glance back to see Zack strolling casually towards me and calling my name. "We'll see you later." Addie says before changing both hers and Elena's direction.
"There's that beautiful girl I was looking for!" Zack says. We meet halfway as he grabs my hand, leading me to the group of his football buds. I was really nervous to say the least. Silverton was way too small of a school to have cliques or labels. However, I'm sure if we were big enough, this group I was approaching would be the most popular. So it's only logical why my stomach was doing handstands and other acrobatic tricks with every step I took.
"Caden! Come meet my girlfriend." Zack calls over his 'better half', as Addison likes to call him. As soon as he says this, everyone turns their heads to look at us. Zack squeezes my hand for reassurance.
"Blynn Jacobs," Caden says before reaching out to shake my hand. Everyone thought Caden was gorgeous. He had a really strong southern accent, dark year-round tan, brown eyes, and luscious brown hair. He had freckles on his face, but they weren't noticeable due to the tan he had. Caden always kept a clean cut. He was every girls dream and he made sure of it. Well, every girls dream but mine. I guess that's why I didn't find him attractive; everyone else gawked over him and thought he was so stinkin' handsome.
"Caden Donnavan," I say, accepting his handshake. I'm sure he intended on swooning me over, but I made sure it didn't work. Being the quarterback of the football team definitely gets him extra brownie points for every other girl but me. His mom owns the local burger place downtown, and has a very busy schedule, especially on Friday's, before and after football games.
"I never thought Zack would be in a relationship with someone like you. He sure did step out of the box this time," Caden says with a laugh.
"What does that mean?" I say, a little taken aback by that comment.
"Oh, no, I didn't mean to offend you. I just meant that you seem too sweet to put up with someone like him. I would picture you with someone like Alexander."
"Do what?" The guy that I noticed talking to Riley and Forest earlier was now standing beside Caden, with someone else hot on his heels.
"I was just telling Blynn that I couldn't believe she would be with someone like Zack." Caden catches the guys up on what just happened.
"I'm Alexander, by the way. But you can call me Alex. And this is Bryson." Alexander shakes my hand, then gestures to the guy standing beside him. Alex was Latino, so it was typical for him to have brown eyes and brown spiky hair. Bryson was your typical white boy- blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Well anyways, we're together. Caden, you're just jealous that I got a girlfriend before you." Zack says, messing around with his best friend.
"Well, at least when I get one, it'll be real." Caden fires back. This threw the guys for a loop.
"Whoa. Wait, y'all aren't really dating?" Bryson says cluelessly. Caden and Zack shoot him a look, while Alex nudges him in his side.
"Ugh. Bryson, it's a long story that I will explain to you later." Zack says. "But yes, we are together." He grabs my hand and smiles over at me, so I smile back at him.
"Hey Blynn!" Riley calls after me while her and Forest stroll up holding hands. "Are you going to the game tonight?"
"Uhh, I don't know yet." I say, shrugging my shoulders in an unsure manner.
"Please, I need someone to ride with!" She begs me in a high-pitched voice. I've put up with 2 year-olds for more than this. I think for a second, looking over at my "boyfriend." This was his mission, after all, not mine.
"Babe, please go. I'll play my best when I know you're in the stands cheering me on." Zack says from my side.
I keep my eyes on him, then look at Riley, and back at him. "I wouldn't miss it for the world." I tap his nose with my finger and scrunch my nose up. The bell for 6th period rings, and I slowly make my way to English. Yay for literature, I think in my head sarcastically.
