Byron

"Hey Byron." I looked in front of me to see Xai. I knew this wasn't gonna go over well. "What's up ma? What can my boy Byron do for you today?" I nudged Gaven notifying him to chill out. "Ookaay. Anyways. Are we still on for tonight?" I looked at her. I had texted her earlier letting her know to come find me when she got the chance. Just so happens Gavin and Rico found me first. "If he setting up appointments then can I set one up to?" I smacked the back Ricos head and shook my head. I was about to say something until one of the other dancers Lea bumped into her, walked over to me and tounged me down. When I did finally pull apart from her, Xai walked up to me and handed over the necklace of an angel I bought her for her birthday. She looked me square in the eyes. "You're pathetic." I pocketed the necklace and watched her walk away. I wanted so badly to chase after her but made no effort to do so. My image mattered to me more. "Uan need her anyways." Gaven stated after throwing a salty hand her way. "She was fine tho. Too bad man." I shook my head. I was pissed but more pissed at myself for doing the exact opposite of everything we discussed.

I still til this day regret not going after Xai. I was childish and only worried about my image then so when she texted me and asked me to meet her at the mall I was partially relieved. I wasted no time getting dressed and grabbing my keys heading downtown. I walked around a bit and bought a few gifts here and there. My phone rang and I answered. "B. What's up man?" I chuckled. My best friend Zion was the only one I really told about the whole situation with Xai 2 years ago. I still don't hear the end of it. "Zion. My man." He chuckled. "How is Seattle treating you?" I sighed and explained what was going on. "Moms knows best B. You better listen to her cause if you mess up this time I hope she never gives you the time of day again." I sighed. "Thanks for the support." I said sarcasticaly. "Aaah whatever man. I gotta go. I'll check with you later." I told him bye and hung up once I spotted Xai standing with another woman, watching 2 kids on the train. "Xai." I called and they both looked. The kids came running towards them. "Mommy. I hungy." She smiled and picked her up. "Hey. who's this?" I asked. "Ummm this is Nadia and her son Aiden and this little lady is my daughter. Bakari Harrison." My eyes went wide. "Daughter?" I asked. She nodded snd looked at the little girl, running a hand through her hair. "Kari say hi to mommys friend Byron." She waved shyly. She handed her to Nadia and she walked off with the kids. She pushed her hair out of her face and began walking away. I followed close behind her. "Xai. Wanna explain to me what the hell is going on?" She paid for her cinnamon sugar twists and smoothie. She brushed  past me and took a seat at an empty food court table. "Xai I know damn well you heard me." She chuckled and slammed her hand on the table, causing us to recieve a few glances. "You don't get the right to be angry Byron! I do!" I sighed and took a seat across from her. "How old is she?" She took a sip of her drink. "She's 2. Her birthday was Wednesday, January 1st." I studied her face. She scoffed. "Yes Byron. You were the only jerk I was with at the time." I ran a hand over my face. "Why didn't you tell me Angel?" She cut her eyes at me. "Don't call me that." I sighed. "I could have helped. I would've been there." She shook her head. "You don't get to play victim." She spat at me. "This is 2 years of my life you kept from me." She rolled her eyes. "You don't think I know that? Not once do I regret that little girl because she is an amazing gift. My world revolves around my daughter. She is the one thing that is keeping me tied to you." She sat her food down. "The last day we spoke I wanted you to be the guy I knew and began to slowly love so badly but instead you decided to be the immature jerk. You hurt me. Deeply. When I found out I was pregnant I called my granparents and came home. There was no way I was sticking around to welcome more heartache. I'm not ready for her to know you as her father so for now she knows you as my friend and I use that term lightly." She stood to leave. I grabbed her arm stopping her. "She's my daughter too Xai." She snatched away from me. "Correction. She's been my daughter for 2 years. You've only met her 10 minutes ago. For now your only attatchment to her is that you went to school with her mother. Either accept it or go about your life." I sighed as she walked away again.. I picked my bags up. "Nice seeing you Angel." I whispered as she walked away.
