Chapter Twenty Three

The following morning was chaotic. Like everyone's-making-sure-that-Gallagher-was-in-Code-Red-version chaotic. (Which it was, there was no like about it.) Girls and teachers alike were flipping things around so it would be "normal" (whatever that is.) Gilly Gallagher's sword was swapped out for a bust of an old guy with big ears who we claim to be the school's first ever headmaster in the Hall of History. It was exactly like a Code Red only without the robotic sounding alarm screaming Code Red over and over again and flashing red lights.

I quickly got dressed in my Gallagher uniform and put on some socks before I was dragged out of my room and into a spot on the stairs above Kat by Lexi (who stood above me just to let you know.) The boys of Blackthorne stood across from us as parents who actually knows Gallagher were walking around and talking with teachers about their kids. I nudged Lexi lightly and pointed to her parents talking to Grandma. Lexi groaned slightly. Kat, Jo, and myself laughed at her. Don't get me wrong, Lexi loves her parents, she just doesn't like being embarrassed by them. And Aunt Liz and Uncle Jonas are the parents that don't try to be embarrassing but some how is.

"Hey Kat, where's your parents?" Jo asked looking around. Kat hummed and looked around as well.

"I think they might be coming in with the civilians. Either that or the jet is still in the air." Kat answered with a shrug. Madame Poppy started rushing around telling everyone to get in positions as they were just about to reopen the doors for the civilians to come in. (Might be a good idea to explain that Parent Night is just another excuse for Open House even though we most likely won't have any of these girls be an incoming Gallagher girl. Although the ball for Parent Night is actually just for the parents who knows about it.) I stood straight with my feet next to each other, not thinking about how my feet were suppose to be position. Lexi nudged me and nodded her head towards my feet.

"Not only are you standing wrong, but-where are your shoes?" Lexi asked looking at me strangely. I smiled innocently as I fixed my stance to where my right foot stood horizontally in front of my left. All of a sudden, civilian parents came in wearing their nicest outfits and brightest smiles, hoping their son or daughter would be considered to be a Gallagher Girl or Blackthorne Boy (not likely, but it never hurts to dream.)

As I stood on the stairs with Kat to my left and Lexi to my right-Jo left to go "talk" to her parents with our teachers-we talked and very subtly, and by subtly I mean in another language, joked about the civilians walking around. What? Gallagher Girls got to keep their cover one way or another. There was a familiar raven haired boy that walked past holding hands with a little girl who could be no older then a fifth or sixth grader. I couldn't help but smirk, knowing I had a home field advantage. That being said, if Jake was here with who I presumed to be his little sister, then his parents couldn't be to far behind.

"Why, hello Jake. What a surprise. I had no clue you of all people would show." I smile, stoping the two mid step. "Who's this?"

"None of your business, Z." Jake shot back, causing Lexi to tsk at him.

"Man Z, I'm glade you two broke up. Madame Poppy would have a fit if she saw his manners." As Lexi was speaking, Simon came running over gushing with excitement about the food we set out in the Grand Hall, mainly the seven or eight tiered chocolate fountain. She looked over Simon with disgust. "Speaking of mannerless."

"Well look at what we have here-a lier and her little friends who fight her fights for her. Tell me, your boyfriend must be here among the several boys in matching outfits. Which one is he?" Simon asked, clearly wanting me to trip over my words. Luckily, Morgan came by to come get me but I stopped him short.

"Morgan will introduce you to him, isn't that right, Morg?" I said, saying that last part through gritted teeth.

"Hm? Oh right, yes, of course. Kyle's just over there, I'll introduce you to him. Speaking of, sis, he's looking for you." Morgan said playing along and I made a mental note to thank Morgan later for not saying Alex was my boyfriend. I nodded and told Morgan to explain to Kyle what's going on while and where I am without giving away the lie. Right after Morgan nodded letting me know he will, he dragged-like actually dragged-Simon away. Soon after, his parents appeared and smiled sweetly at us.
