Mundane high school

Chapter 2

The next day I had maths first period. I hate maths, I just don't understand it and it's so difficult. Simon has English first so we say our goodbyes and head to class. I'm praying that Izzy or Maia is in this class with me so I at least know someone. I walk in to class to see that Izzy is sitting up the back and there is one empty seat next to her. I sit down and thanks the gods that Izzy is in this class. I say hi to her just as Mr Wayland walks in and begins talking about algebra. I copy down the notes and begin to struggle through the questions.

Soon enough class is over, Izzy and I part ways and I head of to science. The science block is on the other side of the school so by the time I get there all the seats are taken, except the one next Izzy's brother Jace. I also see his girlfriend is in this class sitting in the seat on the other side of him. I take the seat and he says "hey red, you're Izzy's friend right?"
"Yes I am goldilocks" I reply. He just laughs at the nickname goes back to talking to his girlfriend, who's name I now know to be Aline. Soon enough Mr Starkweather enters and starts the class.
"Hey red what's the answer to number 3?" He asks me.
"Okay first off don't call me Red, and that's the easiest question there" I say looking at my already completed sheet. "So either you're extremely dumb or you're just trying to go out of your away to annoy me."
"Well carrot top I would like to believe it's the second one because I don't like people offending me very much, but it appears that they are both offensive so let's just say I wanted to start a conversation with you." He replies with his customary crooked smirk. I just laugh and roll my eyes.
After science I go to grab my lunch and sit down at the table Simon and I were at yesterday. Simon was about to join me when we saw Izzy and Maia waving us over, we went over to join them. On the way I passed someone who looked familiar, he was wearing tight pants and a glittery top with his black hair also covered in glitter and when turned around I could see he also had very catlike eyes. Then I realised it was Magnus. Magnus, Simon and I used to be friends back in the early years of primary school until he moved to Idris. I begin to walk over to Magnus when I hear a loud "biscuit!" Coming from him. "Mags, it's been forever how are you?" I ask while I give him a big hug.
"I'm fabulous and how you are you?" He asks.
"I'm great. Come sit with us, we have so much catching up to do!" I say and begin to walk over to Izzy's and Maia's table. I also notice that Jace is sitting there - much to Aline's disapproval - as well as Izzy's other brother Alec. Magnus sits next to Alec - a little closer than necessary - who is uncomfortably looking down at the table, a slight blush creeping onto his face.
"Hey Izzy, Maia, Alec" I say happily "hi Jace" I say not so enthusiastically.
"Hey Clary, Maia is coming over to my place Friday night after the game do want to come?" Izzy Asks.
"Sure sounds good!" I reply.
Simon and Izzy talk for the rest of lunch and Maia's boyfriend Jordan comes over. Magnus and I catch up, turns out he's really into fashion now - I always told him I thought he would be great at it, but he was never interested. He asked if I was still into art which I was and we talked about everything. He asked why Simon and I both moved here this year and I explained what happened with my parents. Then the bell went and we all headed off to our classes. I had art and turns out Maia was in this class with me. We sat together and talked about Friday, she also told me that when Izzy invites us over after the game it also includes going there beforehand to get ready and going to the party afterwards. I finished my sketch of Simon and Maia asked me if we were together, "No definitely not he has been my best friend for ever and he is like a brother to me! Well technically he is my brother seeing as he and his family adopted me, after my parents died in a car crash a few years ago." I explain.
"Oh sorry it's just you seem really close. I'm sorry about your parents." She's says. We spend the rest of the lesson in a comfortable silence.

When Simon and I got home I said I was excited to go to Izzy's on Friday. Simon blushed at the mention of her name and I decided to grill him on this little crush he seems to have on her. "Simon, you like Izzy don't you?" I ask.
"What, no why would you think that?" He asks with a blush starting to form on his cheeks. "Well it's pretty obvious seeing as you can't form proper sentences around her, you blush whenever I say her name and you constantly stare at her!" I tell him.
"Yeah well ok maybe I have a little crush on her but I don't have a chance with her, she will never like me back." He tells me sadly. "Yay I knew you liked her!" I say jumping up and down. I know Simon can't tell but I think he might actually have a chance with Izzy. I mean like she talked to him all of lunch practically ignoring everyone else who tried to speak to her. It's not much but she might grow to like him, I think I have to get these two together!
