Chapter 20

Damen and I are leaving the hospital, after we parked the U-Haul at Damen's house, we headed to my doctor's appointment. Everything is fine besides my blood pressure, Dr. Evans told me that my blood pressure is very high and I need to take it slow for Karlie's sake and my own. She suggested I go on bed rest for a few days but I have so much to do, I asked is there another way and she said no stress, but I still have to be on bed rest.

We are on our way to my mom's house for dinner, "As soon as dinner is over we're going home and bed rest you go." Damen said with one hand on the steering wheel and the other grabbing my hand.

"Damen, Karlie and I are fine, I can't go on bed rest. I have to work, and prepare for Karlie. Damen I can't." I say as we pulled into my mom's drive way, Damen didn't say anything he turned the car off got out of the car and walk to my door to help me out.

We get to the door and hear yelling, I open the door to my mom, Mackenzie, and Jason arguing about me. "You did what!" My mom said screaming at Jason, "Mom calm down Ava is going to be here in a minute and all this stress isn't good for her or Karlie." Mackenzie says trying calm my mom down, but she keeps going. "Mackenzie stop, he had no right putting his hands on Damen and putting Ava in that situation to where she had to choose." She says looking at Mackenzie then spots me and Damen.

She walks over to us "Ava and Damen, I am so sorry for Jason's behavior I don't know what has gotten into him." She says hugging us both, "come sit, eat , and meet Marcus."

When she said Marcus I rolled my eyes and Damen noticed. We sat down across from Mackenzie and Marcus, and my mom and Jason sat down across from each other at the ends of the table. "Not a big fan of your sister's fiancé?" Damen whispered in my ear, that makes me smile.

"No, I can't stand him and my mom doesn't like him either which is why I was surprised when she said she likes you." I say whispering and laughing. "Jason apologize now, and explain to me and your sister why you've been acting this way since she first told us about the baby and Damen." My mom says taking a bite of her spaghetti.

"Well we're waiting." My mom says annoyed.

Jason looks at me and Damen "Ava never knew our father, to think of it none of us ever really knew him, because his punk ass decided to leave when my mom found she was pregnant with her. One day when I was 10, Mackenzie was 8, and Ava was 6 when Dad showed up unexpectedly asking if he could see what Ava looks like, asking about her personality. He also was asking about me and Mackenzie asking the same questions. When I heard what he said I came to the door and shut it right in his face, after that I just felt like I needed to be there for Mackenzie and Ava. I felt like as the only boy that my little sisters needed to be protected no matter what, I wanted them to know that I have their backs whenever. It made me sick knowing you a boyfriend and I didn't know who he was, I just kept rethinking of Ian and the relationship you guys had. I know every guy is different but I couldn't help myself. Damen I truly apologize for the way I've been acting and the punch earlier, I realized that when Ava needs me she will call me and I need to step back and let her live her life." He says while looking at both me and Damen.

"Apology excepted and I could never hurt Ava, her and my daughter is my world and I would do anything to protect them." Damen said shaking Jason's hand, I'm glad my boys are getting along .

Damen's POV

Ava and I was on our way home so she could lay down and get some rest, I pull into the drive way and parked the car. I looked over at Ava and she is knocked out holding her stomach, I got out and walked over to Ava's door to get her out. I opened the door and unbuckled her seat belt and picked her up bridal style. Shutting the door with my foot I started walking to the front door, I got in the house and headed straight to our bedroom.

I laid Ava down , took her shoes off and tucked her in. I decided to take shower, I'm in the shower letting the hot water run down my body as I started to think about Ava and her family. I understand why Jason is so protective of her, and Mackenzie their his little sisters and they needed a man to have their back since their father left them. After thinking I got out the shower, put pajamas on I walked over to kiss Ava on the forehead then headed to my office.

I get in my office and as I close the door my phone rings.

"Hey son." Says my mom.

"Hey mom what's going on?" I say rubbing my head, and grabbing a notepad.

"Tomorrow can you please bring Ava to dinner I wanna thank her in person." She says.

"Sure but thank her for what?" I asked with a confused look.

"For her getting Nate to talk about his anger to a psychologist, and it was one of San Diego's best psychologist Mrs. Dina Charles." She say sounding excited.

"Oh yea, she was happy to do that for us, because I told her about us and she said before we can try to help him, then we have to find the route of the problem." I say looking at nursery ideas.

"She sounds smart is she a psychologist too, and how did she get Dina Charles to talk to Nate?" My mom asked.

"She works for her and she is studying to be one, she graduated in April of last year, and she graduates in June for her masters, and then she going to study for her PHD in the fall and won't graduate until next April." I tell her writing things down.

"Ava sounds great, can't wait to meet her and get know all about her but I'll see you tomorrow son I love you." My mom says.

"I love you too mom." The phone line went dead and I was able to focus more on the nursery.

Looking at ideas I had a pen and paper writing things down so I can make calls and surprise Ava. I wrote down the colors purple and white since Ava really doesn't like pink that much. I wrote down the white wood crib, rocking chair, and changing table. After searching and searching for the perfect idea, I finally found it.

After I had my idea I made calls for painters, people to put the crib up, Ava's friends and Jaylon and Austin to help me out.

I'm going to surprise Ava with a beautiful nursery for Karlie, but Ava doesn't like surprises and when she suspects something, then she will investigate and will probably chop my head off and in the end it will all be worth it. Now that I have everything written down for the nursery let me do some paper work.
