Inside the circular column, the head and hands of the one inserted appear. The floor of the interior has a small pile of golden brown dust. As each of the first three women is inserted, a small portion of the dust bubbles up into an apple-shaped object, and roughly a third of the dust slithers around her right hand, forming into either a male or female hand puppet. She is able to move the puppet. The puppet of the first inserted woman looks around. The woman's real head remains motionless and unaware, with her eyes restfully closed. She "sees" and interacts with the interior of the garden entirely through the use of the puppet. Then, another body is inserted into the column, and gains a (male) puppet as well. Male puppets are identified by a square peg on the front. Female puppets are identified with a square hole on the front. Female "voice-overs" are used for female puppets. Male voices are used for male puppets. When the puppet talks, the lips of the woman controlling it do not move. The naming convention is as such: female puppets are indicated with an F, male with an M. The first number is the puppet number, so F1 is the first female puppet, F2 is the second female puppet. The last number, preceded by a point, is the count of women who have used that puppet. So F1.1 is the first woman to use the first female puppet. F2.10 is the tenth woman to use the second female puppet, and so on. This may sound confusing, but it's not really important.

F1.1: What is this?

M1.1: (with a male voice and male puppet) What are you?

F1.1: ...I'm not alone. I'm glad.

They (the puppets) stand in confused awe, taking in their surroundings. The heads of the inserted bodies controlling the puppets change their facial expression to that of 'confused awe'. Their eyes do not open, nor do their mouths. Again, they are unaware of the world through the senses on their head – only through the senses on their puppet, but their facial expressions do often give an indication as to the true feelings of the puppets. When worth mentioning, these expressions are indicated in [brackets]. A third body is inserted, and a (female) puppet forms on her hand.

F2.1: [confused awe] What is this?

M1.1: Where are we?

F1.1: How would I know? I was here only moments before the two of you.
