AVERY'S POV
I sat down with the rest of the gang, watching Lavender and Dan. They weren't they're usual lovey-dovey shit. She didn't seem as interested as usual, and she looked sad and far away. It didn't seem like anyone else notice though, but they don't really pay attention to anything.
Dan was trying everything too, and I could see the desperation in his eyes as she pulled farther and farther away from him. If she doesn't want him, then it's just bringing both of us a lot of pain...
As I tap into her mind, I realize what it is. She had a dream about Sammy. Eye roll there. I thought that stuff was all said and done, I thought with my soul mate she forgot about him? It's been long enough, there's no need for her to bring pain onto her herself like that. It literally causes her physical pain to think about him, so why would she do it?
Maybe they were mates, just no one knew because she wasn't changed yet. With the devotion she thinks about him with, it wouldn't be surprising. She thinks about him like he's still here, just off for the day or on a short roadtrip. Not like how he's been dead for over a year now.
Chris nudges me, then looks at them. "What's up with them?" he asks. Finally someone notices!
"I'm not sure, but she isn't acting her usual." I say, I can't just tell him about Sammy, Lav would kill me if I did. I watched and stopped him from peering into her mind though. As I saw him concentrate a little bit more, "Wait, don't look into her head, it's probably something really personal, she'd hate you if you knew anything."
He looked at me weird, I'm usually the one telling him to do it, but doesn't push it. We both return to Hector and Victor who were having a sword fight with their pencils like little children. They even got mad at each other for one of them hitting their finger instead of the wood. This became a whole period of fighting twins that were acting like little babies. But I couldn't blame them, it was fun returning to being immature and young.
I watched as Tank's little minions walked from the lunch line to their usual table. Right where they can watch me, but I can't watch them. True, I haven't heard from Tank in a while now, but that's what's making me worry. He isn't the type to just leave someone, even if he promised, he always keeps tabs on his dealmakers, past or present. He has always kept up on his people for at least three months after.
