Her almost white eyes reach mine again. “Oh, didn’t Macy tell you? I’ll be going to this school now, since that little… accident at my old school. They said we could all go home and go to a different school until they have it all fixed up. But I can’t just stop going to school, in Japan they take education extremely seriously and if you don’t have it, you’re left on the streets. So you see how me not going to school may be a problem?”
“Macy left yesterday and she didn’t mention it, though she did mention that a tornado hit your school and the teachers couldn’t find you.”
“Well, she clearly got her Japanese mixed up then, because they let us all go home. Anyway, I’ll be in your grade since back in Japan we’re way ahead then America so I pretty much know everything that you’re learning.”
Great. First she comes home and is apparently sent home from her school which is a total lie and exactly something Avery would come up with. Then Macy leaves me alone in the world with a little sister that I can’t stand because of what she did, and now there’s a new principle that says he’ll punish me for starting fights when I don’t really start them because Laura is a complete psycho bitch that doesn’t know what she’s saying half of the time.
After lunch I walked with Alec back up to my classes. “So, is she really your sister?” he asked. He was being extra talkative today for some reason…
“Yeah, why?” I asked and looked up at him. “Probably because we don’t look anything alike?”
“Yeah, you could say that.”
“Well, she looks more like my mom and I look more like my dad. And she’s a lot meaner and more cruel then I could ever be. And she’s kind of a whore. You know, her and Laura should become friends, they’d match each other perfectly.”
Alec laughs but was cut short by Avery who had snuck up on us. “Thanks, big sis! That’s so kind of you!” she says in a very sarcastic tone. “I’m sorry if my bigger sister is bothering you, she really can’t help herself from trying to get guys that are already taken.”
I laugh a humorless laugh. “What’s that suppose to mean?”
“Well haven’t you heard? Laura has her eyes on him, and he was with her last night…” she trails off with wide eyes, acting all innocent and stuff. It’s hard not to believe her with that look on her face.
I looked up at Alec who had a stony face on. I nodded and stopped talking, glad that Avery had gotten between us so I didn’t accidentally brush my arm across his or something.
Unfortunately, Avery had the last two classes of the day with me, and sat by me and my friends every time. The other guys were watching her, since she was wearing booties and tight black shorts that revealed way to much and that she was just one of those people with the high cheekbones and a bright face with clean skin and big light blue eyes.
Victor, Hector, and Chris all seemed to love her too. She became best friends with Hector and Victor since they were all the pranking type and threw balls of paper at people and then pretended that they were furiously writing down notes when the people looked behind them. I don’t know what Dan thinks of her, since he’s been quiet this whole time, just looking out the window, but I’m pretty sure he’s debating on who is right for him, his best friend or the girl he leaves that ditched him. It’s a hard choice… note the sarcasm.
“Avery, Lavender, Laura, Alec, Chris, Daniel, Victor, and Hector all come down to the office please and thank you.” a dreary man voice said over the loudspeaker. The teacher, Ms. Farland, looked at us and motioned for us to leave. She probably wanted something like that to happen since she kept giving us dirty looks when we got too loud.
