After a few hours of watching TV and exploring the video games and books it was 1:37 A.M. I went outside of my room and saw Miss Lorensen reading a book.

When she noticed me she said, "Oh there you are! I was beginning to think you fell asleep in there! Are you enjoying it here at the house?"

Of course I loved it! My life went from torture to completely fun! I was too shy to tell her that. Estelle rubbed up against my legs.

"Yeah! It's really great here!"

I yawned.

"Are you ready for bed, sweetie?" Miss Lorensen asked me.

I nodded and she walked upstairs. I followed her. She opened the door to my bedroom. It was huge! The floors were red wood with a soft, fluffy white carpet. The bed was red wood too and had white covers with little, light gray flowers that you had to look at closely to see. It had a beautiful white see-through canopy that was tied back with a silky, white ribbon. The dressers were stained white wood. On both sides of the bed there were tall, glass, sliding doors that opened onto a small porch. My favorite part was the red brick walls.

"Thanks so much....," I said to Miss Lorensen. I even didn't know her first name yet.

"By the way, you can call me Amy," she replied. I guess she could sense I was looking for her name.

I smiled.

"Oh, my apologizes! You need a good pair of pajamas don't you!" She left the room and came back with a beautiful pair of summer pajamas. "I got you these before hand. I hope you like them!"

They were comfy-looking, red shorts and a spaghetti strap, white shirt that was loose.

"These are beautiful!" I smiled.

"Goodnight Attie. Sweet dreams," she whispered as she left the room.

I slipped on the pajamas. I pulled the ribbons letting the canopy fall on all sides of the bed. I got into bed. The clock now read 2:31 A.M. For the first time in all my life I had new clothes, and my own room. But most importantly... I had a mother.

After thinking about how great everything was I started to cry. I don't know why and I couldn't help it. But I cried, sobbed maybe. Tears of complete joy ran down my cheeks and onto my pillow. For once I am a normal girl. For once I am not an orphan.

Suddenly Estelle leaped onto the bed and curled up against my head on my pillow.

I must have cried myself to sleep that night.
