Maximum Ride - Overrated

Chapter 5

"What have you been doing?" I asked. Dylan was sat on the single lounge chair across from mine. Fang, Nudge and Iggy sat on the long lounge seat, and Gazzy and Angel sat on the floor.

Dylan explained that he had gone back to Nino's hideout place, and found a file containing all the locations of the Whitecoat labs. He talked of how he was going around destroying them all.

"That's a big job." I commented. Dylan sent me a tired smile, nodding.

"Yeah. I still have more than 20 at least to go." Dylan spoke. He was about to continue talking, when I cut him off.

"Dylan, if you're here to ask for our help in doing that, we're going to have to say no. We are happy here." I said. Most of the Flock are in school, not forgetting Angel and Phoenix's love for it. Iggy seemed to always be out, so I assumed he was doing something, and Fang and I were happy living here. Blowing up science labs didn't fit into that.

"I would never ask that of you. I was in the process of destroying a lab, when I saw Jeb." I frowned. That couldn't be possible.

"He's meant to be dead?" Iggy spoke my thoughts.

"I thought so too. He was talking to a woman. He said he saw Ms Martinez and Ella." Dylan looked directly at me. I felt my heart stop beating. I stopped breathing for a second. After thinking they were gone, they weren't?

"Where?" my voice was small.

"The Slums in Chicago. That's not all though. According to Jeb, Nino has something that threatens the world. It must be a bomb or something worse. Jeb wants to find Max's mum and Ella to make it right with them before Nino screws up the world again." he continued. My head throbbed as the new information processes. I put my head in my hands.

My mum and my sister are alive, and are in Chicago? Nino wants to kill everyone again?

"Max are you okay?" I heard Fang ask. I looked up again and met Fang's gaze, nodding.

"That's all I know." Dylan finished. He looked at me like he was trying to analyse me, or figure out what I was thinking and feeling. I took a deep breath.

"We need to go to Chicago. We also need to find Jeb. Chances are, Jeb will be there too and he could be of help. Jeb obviously knows what Nino's got, and Nino needs to be stopped somehow." I spoke, stepping into the leader role once again.

"Are we going on a mission again?" Gazzy asked. I nodded. I guess we were.

"Dylan you can stay." he nodded his thanks. I still didn't know whether I wanted him to come along on our mission. I got up and went to the kitchen. I took an apple out of the fruit bowl that was slowly running out of apples. Dylan was involved with Nino, and I'm sure he wanted some sort of revenge. As much as I hated to admit it, he's involved and should come.

I still didn't know if I fully trusted him though.

I was sat on the bed a few hours later, lying in the heat. The day was hot, and my mind was impossibly filled with thoughts. I stared at the ceiling, my head hanging off the edge of the bed.

I heard the door open, and click shut.

"Max are you okay?" Fang's head appeared in my view.

"Yeah, I guess so." I replied. Fang frowned a little, but shrugged a little. He disappeared from my view. I sat up, feeling slightly dizzy from being upside-down for so long. Fang lifted his shirt above his head and discarded it on the floor. He noticed me looking and smirked a little.

"Checking me out, Max? he asked. I shook my head, chuckling.

"I'm wondering why you've taken your shirt off, Mr Cocky." he flopped on the bed next to me.

"It's hot." he replied. I shrugged. I laid back down, him next to me.

"I suppose you're going to ask Dylan to come along with us, right?" he asked, flinging an arm around my waist and burying is face in my neck, holding me close to him.

"Yes I think so." I replied. He groaned.

"I don't like him at all."

"I know. It's obvious, but he's involved and he'll be helpful." I justified. I wriggled out of his hold, making him whine like a child.

"Fang its hot!" I exclaimed.

"Go take a cold shower then! I can come too." he smirked again, and I rolled my eyes.

"No."
