"Max the toaster isn't working!" Gazzy flung the bedroom door open.

"Max, I ran out of mascara! What do I do?" Nudge pushed past Gazzy and flung the curtains in front of the door leading out to the balcony open. The light poured in, making me groan in annoyance.

"Mummy, there's way to long until school starts! I want it to start now!" Phoenix walked in.

"You guys need to realise that I am just as good as Max, if not better." Iggy walked in. I buried my head into Fang's neck to hide from the morning alarm known as the Flock. He put an arm around me lazily, showing he was awake.

"The toaster isn't even plugged in!" Angel called from the kitchen, sending Gazzy bolting out of the room. Phoenix and Iggy followed, obviously hungry as well. Nudge was left standing at the end of the bed, arms on her hips and a desperate expression on her face.

"Nudge, you can buy some mascara on the way to school. I'm sure there's some at the shop on the corner." I said, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.

"Oh yeah. Thanks Max!" she bolted out of our bedroom, and I thumped back down onto the bed. Fang wrapped his arms around me once again, and I snuggled closer in his warm embrace.

It's been a month or so since we got Phoenix back from the Whitecoats and the Erasers. It was the calmest month we had had in our lives. We had gotten Phoenix in school a week or so ago, and she was really enjoying it, like Angel. Iggy, Fang and I hardly ever go to school, because it would be our last year, but anything we learn there was just a waste of time for our lives.

"We have to get up." Fang whispered into my ear, his voice husky and deep because of the morning. I nodded, knowing that we couldn't sit in bed all day, but couldn't bring myself to move out of his warm embrace.

After ten minutes or so, Fang had managed to push me out of the bed and onto the floor. That finally motivated me to get some suitable clothes on and go make sure everyone was ready for school in the living room. As everyone stuffed their breakfast into their mouths and rushed around trying to be ready, Phoenix told me about what her friends had played at school the day before, and the stuff she was learning in science class.

I loved my morning chats with Phoenix. Although we didn't have Erasers stopping us from spending time together, having seven people living together was an easy equivalent.

Despite my life being rather calm right now, my mind was still clouded with thoughts. Were my mum and Ella still alive? And where are they? Are Erasers still coming after us? Are we really safe?

"What are you thinking about?" I looked up from my cereal and was met with Fangs concerned gaze. The Flock had left, and Iggy was just cleaning up the horrendous mess Gazzy had created on the table.

"Nothing." I murmured. Iggy sat down, wiping his hands on his pants.

"Is it Ella and your mother?" Iggy asked, sitting back in his chair. Whenever I had thoughts about them, I would go to Fang or Iggy, mainly because they understood my feelings better than the others. Fang understands me best, but Iggy experienced almost the same loss as I.

I nodded in response, before realising he couldn't see that.

"Yeah. I still just want to know where they are." I finally replied.

"Or if they're even alive." Iggy said. I frowned, knowing how true the statement was.

"I miss Ella." Iggy continued.

"I just wonder sometimes, if I didn't have wings, would I be somewhere, living a happy life with Ella as my best friend and sister, be attending a normal school, and not having spent my whole life up to now fighting for survival. I want to be normal." I sighed. Fang shook his head.

"I see where you're coming from, but really?" he asked. I met his gaze with my own confused one.

"Normal is overrated." Iggy finished for Fang. I thought over it for a moment. Although life had been hard up to now, I wouldn't give up my wings for a normal life. But maybe, I just wanted to see what a life like that was like.

"I know, i know. Normal is overrated." I said, smiling a little.

"But we can try and be a little normal, I guess." Iggy suggested.

"I want to find Mum and Ella." I stated.

"Me too." Iggy replied.

"I just want everyone to be safe." Fang said. Silence followed.
