Cassian and I are boarding our ship when some Stormtroopers (How did they get here?) come along and see us.
"Hey, you there!" they shout, pointing at us. "Where are you going? We want to search your ship!"
Cassian grabs my arm. "Give the plans to R5, then go to the Gunner's seat. Hurry."
He runs into the cockpit and lifts up the ramp. Seeing us trying to escape, the Stormtroopers start running towards us. Doing as Cassian asked, I give the disc to R5 and buckle myself into the Gunner's seat. The ship is humming beneath us as Cassian quickly makes a few calculations. I swivel round in the seat and start firing toward the Stormtroopers. They start going down, but now they are lying flat on the ground, firing back at us.
With a roar, Cassian finally gets us up in the air, and I fire a few last shots. The shots were loud, but louder was the clank of something hitting the ship and latching on. "Cassian! We have a tracker on us!" I cry. "Do not lead them back to the Base."
"Where should we go, then?"
I run through a list of planets close to Tatooine. I can think of only one where we may get a little more time. "Scarif. Go to Scarif."
"Jyn, are you sure-."
"Yes." I grit my teeth. "These plans are going to the Rebellion, no matter what." A cold fury envelopes me. "We go to Scarif, we remove the tracker, then we go straight back to Yavin 4. Scarif is the only place they wouldn't expect us to go."
Cassian hesitates, but gives in. "Alright," he says as we switch course.
Why is Cassian okay with going to Scarif and concerned with me?
Why does it not bring back memories for him?
I'm tired. I'm very, very tired. It wouldn't hurt to close my eyes, right? Just for a little bit... They are so heavy...
My eyes snap shut and they won't open again.

Images flash before my eyes. White sandy beaches, palm trees, the sea. The sky is blue, the sun is warm. But it's more than warm. It's hot. It's burning my skin. I look around.
Explosions.
Everywhere I look, there are orange flames and black smoke, and a deafening 'BOOM' resounds in my ears. All around me, people are falling to the ground. Blood splatters on the white sand. All I can see is the crimson liquid leaking out of the body of-
Chirrut.
I want to run to help him. I want to cradle him in my arms, and tell him it will be worth it. But I can't move, my feet are stuck and all I can do is watch helplessly as the Death Star appears on the horizon and the green laser beams set up and fire at the planet. And then there is no horizon, there is no white sandy beaches, there is only a tidal wave of dirt and dust and rock, unstoppable, and coming at us and it's coming closer and closer and I open my mouth to scream and-
"Jyn!"
I open my eyes.
Cassian stands there, shaking me awake. "You were screaming."
"Bad dream," I answer shakily, my throat hoarse.
He is truly concerned. "If you can't handle it, we don't have to-."
"That's the thing isn't it?" I look at him, into those dark eyes that have seen too much. I guess I have, too. "I have to handle it. I have to do this. For them."
"Well then," he points outside. "We're here."

I see nothing but rubble for miles on end. Toppled trees, rocks and even a couple of Stormtrooper helmets here and there. "Let's get this over with, shall we?"
I climb out and start looking around the ship for the tracker. It's a little magnet, flashing blue, stuck on the side of the ship.
I yank it off and blast it. Destroyed.
I look around this desolate landscape, and somehow find myself sitting next to Cassian, shoulders touching.
"I miss them," I say, my eyes moist.
"I know," he replies gently. "Me too. But we should learn from this. Never let it happen again. Alright?"
"Alright."
I look at the orange horizon. "How do you do it?"
"Do what?"
"How are you able to just... keep going, after everything?"
He sighs. "Because I don't know how to do anything else, Jyn."
"We'll make the Empire pay."
"We will."
"We have to!"
"We will, Jyn. This will never happen again."
I stand up. "Come on, Cass. If we wait here any longer, we'll be dead and not demanding payment from anyone."
He stands up and brushes the dirt off his pants. "I like that."
"What?"
"Cass. No one's called me that since, well. Since my mother died."
I pause. "I'm sorry."
"It was very long ago."
"I'm still sorry. I bet she was an amazing woman."
He smiles. "She was."
We climb back into the ship and set the course for Yavin 4.

A little tender scene to remind you this is a Jassian fic.
I'm not very good at writing the little details or, like, love scenes, but I hope this was okay.
