The sun had barely risen when Jyn Andor walked back into the little cottage she shared with her husband of thirty years. She and Cass had moved onto a small, green Outer Rim planet with hardly any people. They managed a small farm, growing a few crops and travelling around the galaxy once in a while, though they hadn't done that in a long time. They were getting older. They wanted one last adventure.

Jyn opened the door to her home after completing some early morning rounds on the farm to see Cass sitting at the table, eating breakfast and reading some new message that had just come in.

"What's that?" she asked. They didn't get many messages anymore. Some 'Happy Birthdays' and 'Happy New Years' occasionally, and not much else. So, a short couple of paragraphs of text appearing on their tablet screen at a completely ordinary time was surprising, to say the least.

Cass sighed. "It looks like the peace we created couldn't last forever." He hands the tablet over to her.

To Cassian and Jyn Andor, Rebel Heroes:

This is Vice-Admiral Amilyn Holdo of the Resistance. Yesterday, the organization known as the 'First Order' announced their construction of a weapon of mass destruction. The 'First Order', as they call themselves, is what is left of the old Empire, given three decades to develop and grow. This weapon was announced by its use. It destroyed five planets, the five that are central to the New Republic: the Hosnian System.

Billions are dead. As the New Republic is, in essence, fallen, and Luke Skywalker has disappeared, General Leia Organa Solo has been gathering as much of the old Rebellion together as she can.

We humbly request your aid in fighting this new foe. If you will grant our request, one of our people will be at the Cantina on Tattooine tomorrow morning to take you to the Resistance base. Do not respond to this message. It may be tracked.

Amilyn Holdo,

VIce-Admiral of the Resistance Fleet

Jyn looked up.

"The day after the battle of Scarif, I promised myself that I would complete our friends' mission for them, since they now could not." Her hands twisted together as conflicting emotions coursed through her. Failed... They had failed. But could peace even be kept forever? Wasn't it a success that they had managed to at least give the galaxy three decades?

But then again, did that really matter if five whole planets of people had been destroyed?

Cassian lifted her chin and met her eyes. After so many years, he knew her as well as she knew herself, perhaps even better. And he knew all the thoughts running through the chaos in her mind.

"We've done it once. We can do it again." He cupped her cheeks, cradling her like something precious. "Peace may never last forever, but it's up to people like us to fight, and to make sure those that cannot fight will never have to. Though without war, we will never know peace, it's up to us to make that peace last as long as we can."

"No one asked us to save the world."

A ghost of a smile fluttered across his face. "No one had to."

And their lips met in a fiery passion, his chapped lips meeting her soft ones, melding perfectly together in a sweet, sweet show of love and connection. This man, who she had been to the very ends of the world with, kissing her with the rough care of a battle-hardened warrior, his mouth, hard and unyielding, knowing she did not need protecting, but holding her in a way that said he wanted to do it anyway. Cassian Andor, who knew her best.

They spent the day gathering supplies and setting all their affairs in order, knowing that they likely would not return from this final adventure. But that was okay, because Jyn and Cassian Andor were born on the battlefield, and would go down fighting to their very last breath.

Cass had never lost his skill as a pilot, remaining a respected figure despite his age. And Jyn's aim with a blaster was just as accurate as it was thirty years prior.

The dawn rose and two figures stepped onto a transport ship, waving down at the neighbour they had sold their farm to. As the sun shone on a new battlefield, the Resistance gained two more pinpricks of hope.

Let's hold on tight to what we have

And when that is gone

I'll still be here for you

I'll show you a new dawn

A/N: Hi all! Sorry it took three months, exams popped up on me (They're still not over! I have a math test in four days!), but I finally finished this oneshot! I really think my writing has improved a lot since two years ago, when I first wrote this (Wow, it's been so long!)  . Thank you so much to everyone that supported me along the way. I noticed Wattpad's new ranking system with the tags this afternoon and we are #5 in Jassian? After a year of no update? Wow, you guys are the best!

I don't think I'll ever finish the original fanfic (to be honest it started going somewhere I really don't like and don't know how to write), but I'm not done with these two yet. Stay tuned folks!
