It’s the Monday after Gia learned about Chris and I. None of us have been in contact with each other since the party.

When I got to homeroom this morning, Gia wasn’t there. I knew she wasn’t gonna come for the rest of the day. Gia’s never late. She either comes to school or doesn’t. Period.

When I got to lunch, I saw Chris sitting by himself. “Hey…” I said while walking towards him.

        “Hey.”

“Have you spoke to Gia at all?”

“No. I’m not really expecting to talk to her. I’m not surprised she didn’t come today either. I know she doesn’t want to see both of us. How you feeling?”

“I don’t know,” I say while sitting next to him. “I feel so many emotions. I’m mad that I’ve lost my best friend but, I’m glad that she knows. What about you?”

“I’m just glad we don’t have we don’t have to hide anymore. We can finally be together in public,” he says while holding my hand.

I looked away with confusion on my face.

        “What?”

“Nothing. I just think it’s better if we-“

“YOU!!! You stupid little SLUT!!” yelled Gia bursting into the lunchroom. She ran towards me and knocked me out of my chair. She climbed on top of me and punched my left eye.

“AAHH!!!” I yelled. The lunchroom was filled with the sound of students roaring. I was being attacked by my best friend and I couldn’t do anything about it. I just hit her back but, not as hard as she hit me.

“Alright, break it up!” shouted the lunch lady while pulling Gia off me.

I laid there for a few minutes, full of shock as the roar of students died down.

“You need to go to the nurse and get some ice. Your eye is swollen,” says Chris while picking me up.
