"They can go screw themselves!" you growled to yourself, throwing your car keys on the table as you yanked off your high heels. Still crying silently, you trudged up to your bedroom and collapsed on your bed, not even caring about the ice cold water soaking the bedsheets. You stayed lying in your bed for a while, wanting to fall asleep and end the day, then sighed as you heard a knock at the front door. "Go away!" you tried to scream at whoever it was from upstairs, but they kept knocking, their fists pounding at the wooden door. You shambled to it, opening it by an inch. "What do you want?" you barked, rubbing your eyes.

"(Y/N), I had no idea they were going to do that, I'm so, so sorry," you heard Lillian apologize rapidly. You just shook your head, about to close the door, when she put her foot out, stopping the process. "Someone else wants to say sorry, too, don't you?"

"Who?" you sighed, opening the door fully. Lillian had Jake by the collar of his shirt, and he was glaring at the both of us.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N)," he eventually said reluctantly, rubbing the back of his head. "Can I go now?"

"I don't think so," she answered gruffly, and another hand appeared on Jake's shoulder, not Lillian's. A man appeared behind Jake, and you squint, unable to see his face because it was so dark outside. At first glance, he looked like just a shadow, with no apparent form. You just manage to make out the body of a muscular man, his hands tucked into hoodie pockets, but you couldn't seem to make out a face. You realize you never noticed him in any of your classes, and didn't look much like a university student anyways. Well, wasn't built like someone who had been studying in their dorms for half a year.

"Who is this?" you asked, unable to keep the disgust out of your voice. Some person who decided to take pity after they realized what they did? Another faker who just wanted to see me cry? you thought to yourself. Lillian shrugged.

"He didn't like the little surprise that this idiot gave, either, and asked if he could come with me. I said whatever," Lillian answered, glancing at the man, who stepped back into the shadows, seeming to warp into something else. Must be a trick of the shadows.

"Could I talk to you privately?" the unknown man asked quietly.

"No," you snap. "I'm tired and it's been a long day, and I just...." you sigh, then say in a quieter voice, "I just need some rest. Who knows, I might see you around."

"Very well. I'm sure I'll see you at school tomorrow, then, (Y/N)," he said flatly, and left, disappearing into the night.

"Creep," you muttered to yourself.

"I'll see you tomorrow?" Lillian asked hesitantly.

"Yeah, sure," you sighed, then closed the door without a goodbye. After changing into your comfy fleece pyjamas, you fall into bed and into a deep sleep, where you dream of that faceless man, tying a noose of pitch black shadows around your neck.
