"Nikolina, it's Mom. Nikalus is in the hospital. He was in an accident." My Mother said, and everything around me went gloomy. My legs collapsed underneath me, and Lazarus, Lysander, and Zaiden ran towards me. Already tears were forming, and flowing, but I couldn't help it. "They don't know if he's gonna make it."
I lowered my head against the cool dirt underneath, as I began crying harder. Lazarus took my phone from me, and began talking to my mom, while Lysander, and Zaiden tried to comfort me. Lysander stroked my hair, and hummed a soft tune, and Zaiden rubbed my back. This isn't happening, is it? I'm just dreaming right? Nik is at home, or work right now probably thinking about what he had for dinner three nights ago. There's no way he was in an accident, he's a safe driver. But, what if it's not this fault in the first place? I looked up at Lysander, as more tears fell. He spread his arms open, and I fell into them, glad he was there for me.
"Uh huh. Don't worry, Mrs. Martinez, we'll bring her by." Lazarus said, still on the phone with my mom. "Yes, she is crying. Yes, we are comforting her. Yes, it's a guy. No, he isn't a perv."I laughed a little hearing Lazarus say that last part, and Lysander looked at me. I glared up at him, and tried to force a smile. Right now isn't the time to cry, Nikolina. He's going to be ok. So, stop wasting tears. Besides, your going to see him. Lazarus glanced over at me, and walked towards us extending his hand out to hand me my phone back.
"She wants to talk to you again." Lazarus said, and I took my phone from him. He pointed his finger at Zaiden, and motioned for him to go over to him.I put my phone against my ear, "Yes, Mom?"
"Are you going to be alright, honey? I know your scared right now, but I'm sure Nik will make it. He's stronger than he looks." she said, and I nodded in agreement. When we were younger Nik would get into a lot of fights, and get suspended. He got expelled once for beating up the principals son. "Listen Nikki, I need to go. The doctors need to run some tests, and Nik's phone is almoat dead. I'll see you when you get here, okay dear?"
"Yeah. I'll see you soon, Mom." I hung up the phone, and stood up resulting in Lysander falling on his ass.
"Hey, Princess~!" he growled, and I smiled.Zaiden walked up to me, and Lysander. "Techincally we aren't supposed to leave campus while school is in session, but since I'm the headmaster's son, we can do it just this once. Got it?"
"Yeah." Nodding I watched as Lazarus pulled his car keys out of his pocket. "Do you know where we're going Lazarus?"
"I believe so. There's only one hospital in your town, so that's where we are headed. Are you ready?"I put my phone back in pocket, and followed Lazarus to his car with Lysander walking beside me. "I thought you didn't want to be at this school." I commented, looking down at the ground, "what changed?"
Lysander scoffed, "I still don't wanna be here. I keep telling everyone who asks that I'm not the same as my brother. Yeah, we're twins, but I'm not a ghoul. I'm not a monster."
"He's not a monster, Lysander." I stated bluntly, "remember that."
"Whatever you say, Princess."
"Why do you keep calling me that?" I asked, rubbing my eye.
'Does it bother you?"
"I...uh..."
"Hmm?"
"Forget it." I growled, and rushed forward to catch up.Lazarus unlocked his car, and Zaiden, and I climbed into the back. Why of all cars, did you pick an eclipse. It's crammped. I buckled up, and waited for the twins to get into the front. Once they finally got in, they buckled up. Lazarus put his keys into the ignition, and then took off.
"God dammit Lazarus, slow dowm. We're on school grounds still!" Zaiden yelled, but Lazarus ignored him. Zaiden sighed, and I looked at him, "Oh, this is going to be an interesting year."I leaned my head against the back of the seat, and closed my eyes. I grew drowsy from crying, but I tried to ignore it. Unfortunately for me, that just made me even more tired. Soon, it was so hard to bear, so I fell asleep, and apparently on Zaiden.
~Lysander's POV~
I glanced back at Nikolina to see if she was doing ok, but what I saw angered me. Nikolina was sleeping against Zaiden, and he was smiling. I growled more to myself than to the others, and glanced back out the window. Lazarus must have noticied I was angry because he turned the radio off, and began to start a conversation with me.
"Lysander, your the only one in the dark, right?" he asked, and I nodded.
"What was that phone call? Why was Nikolina crying? And why are we going to the hospital?" I questioned glancing at Nikolina again.
"Nikolina's brother, Nikalus was in a car accident. From what I heard from her mom, Nikolina has never been close to anyone in her family, but Nikalus. He's been the biggest influence on her, and he's always been there for anything. Especially when no one else was." Lazarus answered my questions, and I frowned. "Basically, to Nikolina, Nikalus is her only real family, and if she loses him she'll feel like she lost her entire family, when in reality she hasn't.'I looked at Lazarus, and sighed. The car grew silent as I began to think, and my brother concentrated on driving to the hospital, occasionally speeding, but slowing down all the same. I looked back out the window, as Lazarus turned the radio back on. This must be hard on Nikolina. I hope her brother survives for her sake.
~Nikolina's POV~
When we arrived at the hospital I rushed Lysander to get out of the car. He finally moved out of the way, pulling the front seat up allowing me to jump out. Instead of waiting for the boys I took off towards the hospital doors. Once I entered I ran up to the landing in the front.
"Hi, what can I do for you today?" She asked in a high-pitched voice.
"Hi, um...I'm here to see my brother Nikalus Martinez."
"Oh, are you Nikolina?" she questioned, and I nodded, "your mother told me to expect you. And your friends, of course."
"What room is he in?"
"Two hundred twenty-six."
"Okay, thanks. Guys let's go." I said, and ran down the hall towards the correct room. The boys managed to keep up, luckily. When we made it to the room I walked straight in. My Mother, and Father were both there watching over my brother, who I didn't want to look at. Yet, I knew I'd have to.Looking at Nik, I noticied his chest was bare except for the bandages wrapped around it. His left arm was in a cast, and he was breathing slowly. His image pained me to look at, and I grew overwhelmed with fear that he wouldn't make it. Around us lights began to flicker on, and off, and I prayed that wasn't because of me. I walked next to Nik, and picked up his right hand. I squeezed it slightly, hoping he'd squeeze back, but of course that didn't happen. Tears fell down, and lights in the hallway completely shut off. I was shaking, and I leaned forward towering over Nik's motionless body.
Lysander pulled me away from Nik, and held me in his arms, "Nikolina, calm down!" He yelled down at me, as more lights began to shut off. I heard my mother scream as another light flashed.
"Dammit, Lysander, calm her down!" Lazarus yelled towards Lysander.Lysander turned me towards him, pulling me closer to his chest, stroking my hair, trying to calm me down. Yet, he wasn't the reason I calmed down. No, it was Nik.
"Nikolina?" I heard a soft voice say, and I looked up.Nik had one eye open slightly, and he was looking towards the direction I was in. Lysander released me once he saw Nik awake, and I stood up quickly. Around me the lights slowly began to come back on, and Lazarus sighed. I grabbed Nik's hand again, and squeezed it again to be sure this was real. Nik squeezed it back, and I laid my head on his chest lightly hugging him.
"Your alright." I said, as I hugged him, "Your alive."
"Yes, I am. Why did you think I was dead?" Nik said slightly offended.
"I...never thought you were dead. Mom said that you might not make it though."A pained experssion hit Nik, and he looked at our mom. She sighed, and looked at the boys. "Hey, guys. Can you wait out there? We need to have a little family decussion."
"What? What about if-" Lysander began to say, but Lazaruus dragged him out of the room.
I looked at my mom, then back at Nik. 'What's going on?" I asked, confused.
"Nikolina," Nik began, and looked at his left arm, "I'm not human."
"I kinda figuured, since I'm not either." I said confused as to why he'd tell me useless information.
"No, Nikolina. I'm a vampire."
"Wha-what? H-how?"~???'s POV~
Grabbing my cell phone out I dialed Leon's number. The phone rang twice then he answered.
"Master, I'm sorry we haven't got the girl yet." he said, and I snickered.
"Forget about her. I found someone better."
"Someone better? Who?"
"Nikolina Martinez."
