CHAPTER FIVE
( NO SIGHTSEEING. )
AT first glance the city of Jedha was like any other Outer-Rim dwelling Kitra had visited. The shuffle of foot traffic mingled with the shouts and clatter of street merchants and the monotonous hum of hidden machinery. But, to a trained ear, Jedha held the subtle signs of occupation; from the sporadic sound of distant gunfire to the clipped, distorted voices of stormtroopers demanding scandocs. The deeper the group drew into the city confines the more uneasy Kitra felt, a sick feeling settling over her stomach at the white flash of a stormtrooper patrol."We've got a good few hours of daylight left." Cassian said with a sliver of optimism as he led the Erso duo around a corner and picked his way through the junkyard of belongings cluttering the path.
"We'll probably need them." Kit sighed and followed the taller boy through, "There's a curfew set for sunset, and I don't fancy a walk back through the dark."
"No sightseeing then?" Jyn asked in a sarcastic manner.
Cassian shook his head and suppressed a small grin for Kitra's sake. "No sightseeing."
"Well then what do we do now?" She wondered.
"I had a contact." Cassian explained as they continued on. "One of Saw's rebels, but he's gone missing. His sister will be looking for him."
"Sweet family." Kit muttered bitterly, casting Jyn a dirty glance that the older girl ignored.
"The temple's been destroyed but she'll be there waiting. There're enough pilgrims around to make it a decent place to hide in plain sight, use as a dead drop. We'll give her Jyn's name and hope that gets us a meeting with Saw."
"Hope?" Jyn asked suspiciously. "That's the best Rebel Intelligence can do?"
Cassian did his best to shrug through the thick layers of material in his jacket. "Rebellions are built on hope."
When the trio turned around the next street Kit became hyper aware of the stormtroopers occupying the area, her fingers pulling her scarf farther down her face as they passed by. The troopers, however, seemed to be distracted as they manhandled the local residents. Kit did her best to block out the sounds of the struggling people as they passed. "Is this all because of your pilot?" Jyn asked when they were out of earshot.
