"Hi Dan!" I say as we both start to Skype.

"Hi Nicole," he says. "You in Massachusetts?"

"Yep, I'm having an ok time so far. I'm in my old room... Believe it or not, I actually used to film here," I say to him.

"Oh, I knew I recognized it!" he says, making me laugh.

"How's your mom doing?" he asks.

"Not great. She's going into hospice really soon..." I say sighing.

"I'm so sorry.. At least she'll be in a better place. And she won't have to suffer anymore," he says, trying to make me look at the bright side. He has a point, though. Although I wish she could just stay alive a little longer, she won't have to suffer. "What about the rest of your family?"

"No abuse from my father yet. Cory's good, though," I say smiling.

"I heard my name?" Cory says as he comes in my room.

"Cory, come here!" I say. "Cory, this is Dan. Dan, this is my brother Cory."

"Nice to meet you, Dan. You better treat my sister right!" he says, making him laugh.

"Don't worry, I have been," he says.

"I gotta go, Nicki. I'm gonna go and see Elyse," Cory says. Elyse is his longtime girlfriend. They've been together since his freshman year of high school.

"I wanna say hi to Elyse!" I say.

"I'll bring her here if you want."

"Do it, I dare you."

And with that, Cory leaves the room laughing. "Cory seems like a nice guy," Dan says.

"I love that little shit with all my heart," I say, making Dan laugh really loud. All of a sudden, my door is opened with no warning.

Dad.

"What are you doing?" he asks me.

"V-video chatting with my boyfriend," I say.

"We need to talk really quick," he tells me. I walk out of the room with him as he brings me to his and my mom's room. "I don't feel comfortable with this boyfriend of yours."

"Why?" I ask, feeling very scared.

"It's a long distance relationship. I don't-" I cut him off.

"No it's not. I met him at-"

"I don't care. Don't ever cut me off in the middle of a sentence. It's not safe to date someone so far away!" he yells.

"But you don't understand-"

"I understand everything, Nicole. Stop trying to deny it's an online relationship. I don't believe it."

"But-"

"But nothing. I don't want you to even see him. I just find it unsafe," he says. And that's when I lose it.

"Okay, so, you think you can just come into my room and ruin my fucking day? No, dad. I'm 22 years old, I'm not a child. I met him at VidCon, and I really like him."

"VidCon my ass. The only friend you've ever had is Ashley," he says.

"Fuck you. I wish mom never married you. Fucking son of a bitch," I say angrily.
