ALESSA
"What are you two doing?!"
The whole place shaken as our Father's angry voice resonated everywhere, engulfing us into a blanket of fear. He looked like he was ready to go to a war field and wanted to skin his enemies fresh and alive.
We both gulped.
"Father..."
That was the only word that came out from my shaking lips. There was a lump stuck on my throat and when I gazed towards Alaric, he was as stunned as I am. My twin was the type of person who is not afraid of anything except Father. He's the only person that he respected, and not to mention, scariest of all.
"I'm asking you both. What are you doing here?!"
Father's every word came out as a drum roll for us. He was like Zeus ready to doom Hades because of his evil deeds and it wasn't something to be happy about.
"Father, we're sorry." Alaric lowered his head. Though his voice was stuttering, it's still amazing how he can pull up a word at a time like this.
I held my twin's hand to find some courage to say something but he pressed my hand, telling me that I should leave it to him. Somewhere in between, I felt like the answers that I have been craving for years is just lurking around and I knew my Father is the only one who holds the key.
Alaric inhaled a deep breath before asking the question that had been haunting us, "Father, what is really the truth behind all of this? Who are you? Are you Ruhan De Lucas?"
As soon as those questions escaped his lips, I saw how the ghost of fear appeared in our Father's expression, proving us that all of our thoughts were true. A truth that could change our lives completely.
"Father, please tell us the truth." I pleaded. I wanted to hear it directly from him. I wanted to hear that despite everything, despite the danger that's lurking just around us, we will be fine.
But our Father shook his head.
"I'm sorry. I didn't want you to live in fear just how I've grown up. I wanted to give you a life away from the mafia. But I guess all secrets can't be hidden forever since the De Lucas blood is also running in your veins."
"Grandpa and Grandma Mireille, who are they?" Alaric asked.
Father sighed heavily before finally saying, "They are the distant relatives of the Thanas. The Thana family are one of the trusted families of the De Lucas and they were the ones who saved me from that ambush."
My chest tightened. Every word of revelation from my Father made me realize how my whole life had been a lie. We have been a prisoner in this mansion all our lives because of the shadows of the past.
"I was fourteen when your Grandfather told me the truth about who I was," my Father's scarlet eyes were full of pain as he said that, "It was the Vaille family who attacked us that night. They are a sworn rival of our family. The Thanas made everyone believe that I also died in that mass murder but rumors were spreading in Giortta lately that I survived that's why I have to be vigilant. I can't lose you to the Vailles just how I lost my family before."
Now I understood. The old lady in my dream was a part of the De Lucas. I can't imagine how much she suffered before she had her last breath. I can't imagine how much my Father suffered because of what the Vailles did.
As I felt my eyes brimmed with tears, I hugged my Father, "I'm sorry. It must've been hard and painful. I'm sorry for doubting you, Father."
"Sorry, Father..." I heard Alaric seconded and I saw the tears forming in his scarlet eyes.
