Chapter 10: Spreading the News

I wake up lying on my bed, my hand in Jay's. He's sitting in a chair beside me. I smile at how cute he is when he sleeps. I get up and walk quietly towards him, kissing him softly on the forehead. He slowly opens his eyes, smiling at me.

"Good morning." He says.

"Good morning." I reply.

Jay stands up and gives me a kiss on the cheek.

"You hungry?" I ask.

"I suppose I could eat." Jay says, holding out his hand.

I take it and we walk, hand-in-hand, to the lobby, which is our new eating place in the apartment.

When we arrive, Andy meets us at the door and wolf whistles.

"Well, well, well." he says. "It's about time. And Matthew owes me $10 'cause he said it'd take you lovebirds longer to hook up."

I blush. Was it really that obvious before that I had a crush on Jay?

I swear I catch Jay smiling and winking at Andy.

Jay and I find a seat and begin to eat some toast and sausage.

"Are you going to tell them about the message?" I ask suddenly. It's not a simple question, but I figure now is as good time to ask as any.

Jay lets out a sigh.

"To be honest, I don't know. I mean I guess they have the right to know, but they already have enough things to worry about at the time."

I consider his answer. He is correct, about them having the right to know, but also them having enough stress on them as it is.

I then have a random thought. Jay received a very important message. A message that could change everything. and I was the first person he came to. I was the first person he thought to tell. I smiled at this nice realization. I almost forget that Jay is still next to me, awaiting a response.

"I think you should tell them."

~~~*~~~
"Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a good night's sleep. You'll need it. Because today we are continuing our Gathering duties." Jay speaks loudly so that everyone can hear him.
"What about Scouters?" Someone from the crowd asks.
"Scouters will assist the Gatherers since everyone left is most likely here with us. But before you leave, I have a very important announcement." Jay hesitates, looking over to me. I can tell that he is nervous. And I don't blame him.
"The Invaders sent another message." Jay says slowly, putting emotion into each word.
Do you know that moment, when the teacher leaves your classroom and everyone immediately starts to talk and het loud? Well multiply that by about 40 and maybe you can imagine what it sounded like in that room.
After about 2 minutes of trying to quiet everyone, the combined voices of Jay, Sam, and Andy finally shut everyone up.
Once it was quiet, Jay decided it was safe to go on.
"I-" was the only thing he got out before he was interrupted.
"What did it say?" A man questioned from the back of the room.
"It said.. It said three words," Jay says, obviously scared of the reaction he'll get after he finished his sentence. "'It has Begun'"
