Chapter 14: Sick
After the confession with Jay there was a hard knock on the door. Jay called for them to come in and standing in the doorway was a tall girl with bright red hair. I recognized her as Tammy, a girl from London.
"Pete. Pete is sick. Real sick." she said, out of breath.
Jay nodded and Tammy led us to Pete's room. He was lying on the bed. He looked very pale and sickly. Standing over the bed was Pete's twin brother Parker and Jenna, the nurse.
"I don't know what's wrong with him." Jenna said.
"How long has he been like this?" Jay asked.
"Only since this morning." Parker answered.
I walked to his bead a put my hand on Pete's forehead. It was hot and sweaty. I stood there taking in his sick, broken image. I heard his short ragged breaths. I'd never seen anything like this.
"Help him, please!" Parker cried to Jay and I.
Jenna frantically jogged around checking his temperature and blood pressure, both growing steadily worse.
She pointed out a few patches of his skin that was turning red and irritated.
"No one touch him!" I ordered, assuming the virus was contagious.
Pete turned to his side and coughed up some blood. Then was still. Jenna's gloved hands touched his neck, then she shook her head, looking down.
Parker began screaming reaching to grab his brother, but Jay held him back.
"My wife! Someone help! Anyone! Please!" A man called from the hallway. Jay and I ordered Tammy to stay and watch Parker as Jenna followed us out to see the commotion.
"Sir! Lead us to your wife now," Jay ordered the man.
We followed him until we came upon the same scene as before except a woman about 35 lay in the bed.
"Please! Help her! Cure her!" The man sobbed reaching for his wife's red, irritated hand.
Jenna grabbed his arm to stop him.
"Sir it's contagious you can't touch her,"The woman then repeated Pete's dying actions, her blood splattering onto the floor, her body going still.
"Quarantine," I said. "Sir, who has your wife touched since this morning," I attempted to ask the sobbing man.
"My son.. and her sister, Grace." He said, "I can't lose them too, please!"
Jay ran out immediately to find the people. I ordered Jenna to find who Pete had touched and take all the possibly infected people into one room.
"Sir, you can come with us and help or stay but you cannot have any contact with your wife or a lot more people will die," I said, sternly.
He nodded in response.
I left the room, preparing to tackle the third attack. The virus.
