Chapter 11: Attack
I braced myself, waiting for the people in the room to explode into shouting. But it never came. It was quiet. Other than some crying.
"I am sure you are all just as surprised and saddened as I am. This will take some time to digest, but I must ask that the Gatherers leave now."
I guess everyone was still digesting the information. The Gatherers followed Jay's orders and left, without another word.
Jay came back over to our table and sat beside me. I laid my head on his shoulder and he put his arm around me.
"What do we do now?" I asked him.
"I guess the only thing we can do is wait." He said.

I awoke from my slumber with a start. I had needed some more rest since I didn't sleep much last night, so after breakfast I had returned to my room to take a nap. I looked over to the door to see who had just slammed it open. It was Andy. He looked dirty and had some scrapes and scratches all over his body. He had tears streaming down his face.
"I couldn't find Jay." he choked, "It's Sam."
I hurriedly got up to follow him back to the lobby. We arrived and saw Sam lying on the floor, a huge gash on her arm and a large amount of blood soaking her right pants leg. There were a few people crowded around her, and Matthew was kneeling beside her, sobbing, yelling her name, and shaking her lifeless body.
I ran over, moving a few people out of my way. I held my finger to her neck. No pulse. Tears were streaming down my own face now.
"A doctor! Get a doctor!" Matthew yelled.
I shook my head. There was no point. She was gone.
"We need a doctor!" Matthew yelled again, breaking down into uncontrollable sobs.
I stood up slowly.
"What happened?" I asked Andy.
"We were in a grocery store." Andy said, fumbling with the hem of his T-shirt, "Getting some food and drinks. There was a bomb. People died. We got who we could out, to bring here."
I hugged him. How many more were going to die until it was over?
"Do you know how many died?"
"18."
That meant that now there were only 64 left.
