"Are you ready mi amore?" Her mother asks stroking the nervous girl's long silky chestnut brown hair.
"As I'll ever be mama." The girl replies clutching the bag in her lap for dear life. She braces herself then pushes the door of her mother's small Ford open and climbs out gracefully.
"I can't believe it Cecilia, your first date. Auntie Teresina would be so proud. As would Georgiana." Her mother sighs.
"I miss them mama." Cecilia replies heavy heartedly, referring to the family they left behind in Italy.
"I miss them too mi amore." Her mother agrees. "Now go in there, mustn't keep the poor boy waiting."
"Alright I'm going." She giggles. "I'm beginning to think that you just want to be rid of me."
"Maybe I do now go!" Her mother almost shouts.
Cecilia takes a deep breath and strides into the restaurant proudly. She scans the faces of the people in the small place. He's not here yet. She thinks to herself. Perhaps he got caught in traffic. She chooses a booth by the windows so she can watch for her date.
"He will be here soon." Cecilia mutters to herself.
