After making his way outside, pulling his coat off, turning it inside out, and ruffling up his previously neat hair he strolls back into the diner from the front door. He scans the faces before finding the one he is looking for.
"Hey babe sorry I'm late traffic was just awful." He plops down on the seat across from the shocked girl.
"Just go with it yeah. The jackass that stood you up, doesn't even deserve any more of your time." He whispers just so the girl can hear him.
Sam pulls off his coat and folds it next to him on the booth seat. The girl smiles revealing a small dimple under her right eye. Unable to control it a smile plays across Sam's lips.
"I'm Cecilia." The girl states her accent thick and sweet as honey.
"I'm Sam." He holds his hand out to the mysterious girl he has just decided to spend the evening with. Cat walks up to the table holding what Sam assumes to be the girl's drink.
"I thought you said he wasn't coming." Cat sighed in awe.
"I just got caught in some God awful traffic and got a little turned around." He smiles.
"Well, there anything I can get the two of you?" She asks laughing a little.
"I would like the fish and fries please." Cecilia explains.
"I'll have what she's having." Sam states.
Cat strolls away to place the order properly.
This is going better than I thought. Sam thinks smiling to himself.
