"What's going on with you and your dad?" Troye asked.

I looked out onto the water thinking about how to answer that question, again. It was simple, but it took me back a little. I needed to answer cautiously. I didn't know what he meant. He doesn't really seem to ask many questions about him.

"What do you mean?" I simply said, not wanting to assume anything.

"He's always mad, it seems. After that one day at the barbecue like 7 years ago, you never let me come to your house. You make a bunch of different excuses, all involving your dad. Why?"

"He's just acting weird, 's all." I answered. I ruffled his hair and he playfully swatted my hand way.

"Seriously, Connor. Don't lie to me." Troye said, getting all serious. He moved so that he was facing me and sitting cross-legged. "Look at me Connor."

I moved to the same position as him. He was serious, not taking his eyes off me.

"Is something wrong? Tell me what's going on. You're worrying me." He said.

"C'mon Troye you're being weird." I said, laughing it off and moving my eyes away from his burning eye contact . "Everything's fine. If it wasn't I would tell you." I got up and dusted the sand off my butt. "I'm gonna go now."

I started to walk away without looking back at him. My dad was something that I never talked about. He was a  controlling drunk and I don't want Troye anywhere near that. I hated when he was serious like that, it scared me sometimes.

Another shitty chapter they'll get better lol (hopefully🙃🙃)
