"I dare you to jump off of the jetty" Troye said to Connor as they sat on the beach.

"You're crazy." Connor laughed, looking at Troye.

"I'll do it if you do it." Troye suggested.

Connor thought for a little, and then shook his head.

"It's gonna be cold. Plus, my pop's gonna be mad when I come home all wet." He said.

"Whatever man. You're a wuss. I ben Daniel would do it." Troye said. Being only 10, he was always looking for an adventure.

They both were, so they got up and wandered their small neighbourhood. There were many parts of the community they haven't been, forbidden by their parents. On their spare time, they snuck around and went through all the places they weren't allowed.

They ran into their friend, Dan Howell, who visited every summer from London. The trio went back to the beach and made their childish small talk.

"Hey, did you lads see Ruby in her bikini?" Dan asked after other conversation topics were discussed.

"Nah. Girls aren't really my thing yet." Connor said casually. "We're not that old." He laughed.

"Yeah, same." Troye said, drawing in the sand.

"What's that supposed to mean? Are you two f*gs or something?" Dan said.

The boys looked up in confusion towuthe new word.

"I dunno, what's that mean?" Troye asked.

"My step dad told me that f*gs are guys who like other guys the way you're supposed to like girls. He said that it's wrong to be a f*g, too, and that they're gonna be punished." Dan continued lightly. "He hit me when he saw me holding hands with my friend."

Once he said that, his eyes darted between the two boys. "We weren't doing nothing like that. We were just being buddies." He said as his cheeks turned red. "He hits me for no reason, it's not like we were doin' anything."

He cringed after he said way too much then he knew he could.

None of the boys said anything. Connor and Troye never really thought about liking boys like that, thinking that wasn't even an option. Their community was very close minded.

"I gotta go." Dan mumbled as he got up and walked away. He seemed angry, and embarrassed.

"You just got here!" Connor called after him. He didn't stop or turn around, and the boys sighed.

After that, there was a long pause of silence. No one dared to say anything. Why? They were mostly trying to take that in, Dan had just introduced the entire concept of sexual orientation to them.

Finally, Connor broke the silence and brightened the mood by saying, "Race you to the jetty?"

I absolutely hate the word 'f*g,' that's why I censored it. It's my version of the 'F Word'

Also Happy New Year! Really hope 2017 is better than 2016 🙃
