I woke up early, feeling tired and sore. Sleeping late and waking up early always had that effect on me. I'd no idea why I woke up so early when I had nothing to do and nowhere to go.
My effort to try to go back to sleep was futile and after ten minutes of closing my eyes and not feeling closer to slumber the more I trued to force it, I stood up.
Also, feeling hungry, I decided to make breakfast for everyone. A better idea than just laying on my bed trying to force the sleep to come or just lazing around.
I was working in the kitchen, almost done with preparing breakfast when I heard the sound of Andrea's room door opening.
I quickly came out of the kitchen to apologize to her about last night. She had tried to draw me into she and Kevin's conversations on our way home but I hadn't been in the mood to talk. She ended up talking to Kevin while I stared out the window. I was sure she would be angry since she'd probably only talked to him to avoid everything being awkward and I felt bad about that.
"Andrea, I'm really sorry about my weird behavior last night and leaving you alone with Kevin but..." I trailed off, when I noticed who was standing behind Andrea.
The sight before me made all thoughts of apology immediately fly out of my head.
They both looked shocked to see me, considering the fact that I lived in this house. Andrea avoided my gaze, her cheeks flaming with embarrassment. Kevin just looked downright uncomfortable.
I couldn't for the life of me understand how Andrea thought it was appropriate to bring him here. I'd heard the night before that he also lived in NY, so I didn't get why they couldn't just go back to his place.
Andrea must have seen the look of disgust on my face because she hurriedly 'tried' to smooth things over. "It was so late in the night and Kevin needed somewhere to crash, so I let him stay over."
I raised an eyebrow at that. She either thought I was stupid or she was just being stupid herself. I heard shuffling in my dad's room and froze.
Andrea also froze at the sound. She looked ready to run while Kevin looked oblivious. I guess he didn't hear anything.
The situation was kind of funny because if my dad came out to meet them. I had no idea what Andrea would say but I was sure she was already thinking of good excuses. At least better ones than the one she gave me.
It would be a sticky situation but I was sure Andrea would be the one to suffer the most. Kevin would probably suffer embarrassment too and I could just sit and enjoy the show but I'd rather avoid it all.
So, with a forced smile on my lips, I looked at Kevin. "Kevin, I would have asked you to join us for breakfast but I think you should leave now if you don't want this situation to get more awkward."
They started moving towards the door and I couldn't help adding, "Uh, Kevin." They both turned to look at me and I smiled for real this time. "You can always CRASH at our house instead of your place whenever you feel like it."
He laughed while Andrea glared at me. They left while I went to my dad. He must have heard the door because he asked, "Where is Andrea going to, so early in the morning?"
I shrugged not wanting to lie or say the wrong thing. He left the subject though and went to one that made me wish I had slept all morning. Smiling at me, his eyes twinkling, he asked, "So, how was the exhibition?"
I must have grimaced before I could catch myself because he said, "It was either that bad or you just need to get used to being around people."
His words made me think of Caden but I ignored that train of thought and talked about other matters as we both ate breakfast without Andrea.
