I finally slept after midnight when there was still no sign of Adam and I knew I couldn’t stay up any longer. I just decided that if he wasn't still in by morning, I would inform his brothers. Even though neither was in California.

Morning came and my anxiety spiked some more when I asked Dorothy if Adam came in during the night and she said he didn't. She had been to his room to ask him what he wanted for breakfast and when she didn’t see him, she asked the security and other staff and no one had seen him since he left.

She had seen my worry and tried to alleviate it but I was too wound up to calm down. Although instead of doing nothing and just panicking, I forced myself to go eat in the dining room after taking my bath. It was more like tried to eat as all I did was nibble on a piece of bacon and leave the remaining food on the plate.

Carlos had suggested that he could have gone back to Santa Barbara after he went to the friend's house he told me he was going to but I doubted it, I couldn't confirm it though, since his phone was still switched off.

I could understand if he wanted to go out to clear his head after those confessions but him switching off his phone and not coming in the morning after he said he would be in last night was a little worrying.

The squeak of footsteps made me raise my head to see Adam come into the dining room with a sheepish grin that made me want to slap him but the relief his presence brought surpassed that feeling. All I did was raise an expectant brow as I eyed him still in last night's clothes.

“Dorothy just gave me an earful and I understand you were worried and I'm very sorry.”

I nodded but the question was still in my eyes and he continued. “I changed my mind about going to a friend's and instead went to a bar to get a few drinks. I met Katherine there and then we had a few more and then we were drunk and I crashed at her house.”

My brows furrowed in confusion. “Katherine is in LA?”

“Yeah, she just got back and said she had no idea you were still here and I might have told her the reason.”

I winced at that and Adam nodded slowly. “She promised to punish you for not telling her about your change in plans.”

I rolled my eyes as I returned Adam's smile. “I didn't want her to worry and had no idea she'd be back from her photoshoot in Milan so soon.”

“She arrived yesterday, there was a change in plans. She needed to come take care of something here.”

I raised a surprised brow at the casual way he talked about Katherine. He met my gaze and flashed a shy smile that made me snicker. “We might have talked. A lot.”

“Uh-huh,”

He rolled his eyes and after some time, I sobered. “Why was your phone off though?”

He sighed with a contrite look. “I didn't plan to not come back so I didn't charge it when the battery was low.”

I nodded in understanding. Then my lips parted slowly but what I wanted to say stuck in my throat as I tried to decide if it was appropriate to ask why he’d decided to sleep at Katherine's or not. Because I knew it wasn't because they were drunk — they couldn't have been that drunk since they drove or maybe they took a cab…

“Why don't you come join me for breakfast?” I decided to leave it.

He shook his head. “No. I really need to go take my bath first.”

I chuckled a little before digging into my food with peace and no guilt this time. I'd thought he was gone until I heard his footsteps stop and heard his voice.
