19. Aftermath

CHAPTER 19

STEPHEN POV.

"Stephen everything is going to be alright" my mother tried to comfort me as she placed a hand on top of my shaking one.

"Mom she wasn't breathing" I mumbled rubbing my temples. I was having a difficult time processing everything, as images of her lifeless body kept replaying through my mind like a broken record.

Tonight was supposed to be a joyous celebration of our upcoming wedding. Never in my life did I think that tonight would take a turn like this.

"Curry family?" A tall middle aged man spoke up snapping me out of my thoughts.

"What's going on? Is she okay? How is she doc?" I pleaded hoping for the best yet, the knots in my stomach told me otherwise.

"Your all family here correct?"

"Yes I'm her sister now can you please cut the bullshit and tell us how she is?" Aylani interjected.

"Well Ms. Jade is suffering from extreme exhaustion, and is showing high levels of stress. Therefore her body simply collapsed under the pressure."

I felt like absolute shit.

Here I was dumping all of the wedding responsibilities on my wife, and expecting her to balance everything on her own. What was even worse is that I had missed the signs that she was feeling stressed.

"However, if your wife removes herself from stress free activities and plenty of bed rest, your wife and baby should recover nicely."

Everybody turned and looked at me however, I was just confused as they were.

"I'm sorry did you say baby?" I nervously chuckled.

"Yes..." The doctor trailed off.

"Is it possible for me to see my wife now?" I needed to see my wife as soon as possible as I needed to get everything straightened out.

Maybe she didn't know? Maybe she was scared to tell me?

Yet despite all of the excuses I tried to create on her behalf something wasn't right. And the closer I got to the hospital room the more anxious I became.

I thanked the nurse for showing me the room before I glanced over at my wife's direction.

"Baby" I spoke up grabbing her attention as I made my way over to her side. "I'm so sorry! How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine." She gave me a weak smile before reaching out for my hand. "Just tired."

"Yeah well your going to be getting lots of rest from now on." I sighed. "It's my fault that your even in this situation in the first place, I left most of the wedding responsibilities on you and stressed you out".

"It's okay between your hectic schedule there was no way that you could've helped out anyway."

I ran a hand over my face as a heavy wave of guilt ran over me. "It shouldn't be like that baby, I should've managed my time better. Not just for the wedding but for you in general, I feel like we've been moving at a hundred miles per hour lately and just haven't had time to ourselves.

Nodding she looked down and began playing with her hands. I knew I was on the right track.

"You know time to really connect, hell I feel like we barely know what's going on with one another these days."

"Well we just have to be better about that won't we." She smiled. "Hey do you think you can ask the nurse for another blanket I'm freezing."

"Really? Your not going to tell me!" I ran a hand over my face and couldn't help but laugh at her attempt to brush this off.

"Tell you what?"

"I know your pregnant Jade" I sighed as I turned to face her. "And I'm pretty confident that you knew you were too."

She began biting her lip before sighing and shifting in the bed. "Okay Wardell I knew but it's not like it's going to make a difference anyway."

"What do you mean? Why didn't you tell me? Is it because your scared about my reaction because baby I'm ecstatic!" I smiled. "I just wish you would've told me and not the doctor."

"Wardell I never planned on telling you in the first place" she stressed.

And before I could even question it she gave me the answer.

"I don't want this baby."

you probably all hate me and I don't blame you I haven't updated in a loNG time! however I just want to apologize,m but between school and well just life in general I've been super busy!!

However I didn't forget about you guys and I promise I'm working on managing my time especially for this story.
