Chapter 18
I was woken up by the doorbell repeatedly ringing over and over again. I sighed and looked at the alarm clock beside my bed. Who would be here at four-thirty in the morning?
I pulled myself out of bed because I figured my mom wasn't going to answer it since she was a heavier sleeper, and she would have already been out of bed by know if she had heard it.
I made my way downstairs and looked through the peephole, seeing Logan standing there. I furrowed my eyebrows and opened the door. "Logan? What are you...."
"We need to get out of here, now," he interrupted.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"I'll explain later, just please, go wake up Flynn," Logan said. "Jake and Lilly are already in the care, but we really need to leave now."
"Okay, okay," I said. "Can you get Flynn? I would rather not be in my pajamas if we're going....wherever it is we're going."
"Sure, but you have to get changed fast," Logan said. He walked in and I closed the door before the two of us headed up the stairs. I went to my room and got changed into the first clothes I grabbed before grabbing my cell phone and my charger before sticking it in the pocket of my hoodie.
As soon as I left my bedroom, Mom walked out of her room. "What's with all the commotion?" she asked. "Why are you up so early?"
"I have no idea, to be honest," I said. "Logan showed up and said Flynn and I have to leave with him now. He doesn't have time to explain what's going on. I'll text you once he tells me, okay?"
"Okay," Mom said. "You'll be okay, right?"
"Yeah," I said, though I didn't really know the answer. I gave her a hug before leaving the house and getting into the passenger seat of the car. I was the last one in so once I was buckled up, Logan pulled out of the driveway and began driving down the road.
"So, can we please know what's going on and why you woke us up so early?" I asked.
Logan sighed. "So, I was up again trying to find anything that will help counter the gas bomb, and my parents must have heard me typing on my laptop, because they came in my room and asked why I was up so late. Well, early. You know what I mean."
"Dad was loud," Jake added. "I heard him from my room. He accused Logan of looking at porn."
I raised an eyebrow. "Were you?"
"No!" Logan said. "I don't do that, and I just told you I was doing research. Anyway, my dad took my laptop and looked at the history and found all these different websites. So I had to come clean because my dad, like always, overreacted and thought I was the one building a bomb. He always jumps to conclusions."
"Okay, I get that you told them, but that doesn't mean we have to leave our homes at four-thirty in the morning," I said.
"Yeah, it does, because my mom called the cops and said Ryan is in town," Logan said. "And, to make things worse, I got a text on my own phone from Ryan, saying that he's coming to get us since the cops are looking for him."
"Well, why didn't you stop your mom?" Flynn asked. "From calling the cops?"
"Uh, have you met my parents?" Logan asked. "They're very stubborn. I tried, Jake was out of bed by then and tried getting her to not call the cops, but she did. So, we're most likely dead."
