The clock struck 10.30 a.m.. The bell that was supposed to mark the end of second period seemed too far away. Namjoon poked the end of his pen softly against the table, attempting not to fall asleep. The teacher droned on and on. Namjoon turned to his seatmate, Seokjin, who was struggling to stay awake as well.
Namjoon looked at the clock again after who knows how long has passed. He sighed inwardly when he foubd out that only precisely 8 minutes had passed. Outside, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. It was the perfect weather for a P.E lesson, except that he had to sit in the classroom and study physics instead. How boring.
He sat still for a few more minutes until he decided that he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore. Namjoon stood up, startling the half asleep Seokjin beside him, walked up to the teacher, and asked to be excused to the washroom. Luckily, the teacher allowed him.
Namjoon walked out of the classroom, stretched and immediately felt refreshed. Wow, that teacher must be emitting some sort of sleeping wave. Since he had no reason to return to the classroom and fall asleep again, he decided to head for his favourite spot in the school.
Describing the school as "big" is an understatement. It was simply gigantic. That results in a lot of extra classrooms, unused, left empty. Namjoon ascended some staircases and found himself in a secluded corridor. It was the fourth floor of the building. All the classrooms there were uninhabited. It was silent. Namjoon loved it here as he prefers solitude over crowds.
At the end of the long corridor there was an open space, looking out to a farming estate. There was usually nobody there, but today was an exception. Namjoon saw someone leaning against the concrete railing, probably wanting some fresh air. Namjoon decided to leave and not to disturb until he saw the person leap and was now sitting on the railing, legs dangling off four storeys of height.
The person then carefully took out something from his pocket. He stared at it for sometime, and then tossed it over his head. It landed on the floor with a soft thud. Namjoon realised that the stuff resembled an envelope. He continued to watch silently, sleepiness all gone. The person stared up to the sky, and then looked down, shifting awkwardly in place. He was moving towards the edge.
It took Namjoon one second to register what the person was trying to do.
Namjoon started quietly, but urgently, towards the person. Then, he started to sprint. Footsteps echoed across the wide corridor. The person seemed surprised by the sudden sound, but did not stop his actions. Just as Namjoon was about to reach him, he propped himself off the railing.
"NO! Don't—" Namjoon screamed as he finally reached the person, body slamming into the concrete railing. He stretched his arms ourwards over the railing, and managed to grab the person by one arm.
"Let go!" The person yelled with a raspy voice. He struggled to get loose but Namjoon had a death grip. They made eye contact.
"Min Yoongi...?"
Namjoon knew the person. Min Yoongi from next class. Outcasted. Isolated. Stoic face. Never show emotions.
His ex friend.
Namjoon tried his best holding into Yoongi's arm with both his hands. "Give me your other hand!" He urged, but Yoongi shook his head.
"No. Let me die, please." Yoongi said with a low voice. "No, you can't die." Namjoon replied, staring dead into Yoongi's eyes which showed no emotion. "Come on, just give me that hand."
