Finding A Douchebag (and Perhaps Perfection)

White uniform, stethoscope hanging around his neck. Being a doctor or a nurse was always Hoseok's dream. Never once had he dreamed of just sitting in the medical bay in a mediocre high school in town, staring at the pure white bed sheets, waiting for injured students to come to him for help. Hoseok absolutely loved helping people out, but... just not in this situation.

It was a normal morning of a typical high school,  students studying in class, students playing on the field, students doing experiments in the lab. As per usual, the medical bay was left empty, Hoseok the only one on shift. His colleague and best friend, Yoongi, had some errands to run so he was alone. The medical bay was spotless clean, and sunlight shone through the transparent glass panes of the window, leaving golden rays of light, painting the white beds a slight golden yellow.

The comfortable silence was abruptly broken as the door to the medical room was slammed open, and a student stumbled in. Hoseok stood up at the attention, as the student held his chest, limped to the nearest bed and dropped onto it. Hoseok sighed and went to the student concerned. The student wasn't unfamiliar to him, or his other colleagues at all.

"Kim Seokjin," he said in a slightly exasperated tone, "is it your soulmate again?"

The student, Seokjin, nodded as much as his body allowed him, before his face contorted in distress again. "That idiot... he probably has asthma but refuses to drop out in whatever sports he is involved. Today is especially worse." He said breathlessly. "My lungs feel like people stepped on it and put rocks on it."

"And you still don't know the identity?"

"No, and that's the problem- owh what the heck- MY GOSH!" Seokjin's eyes widened and rolled to the back of his eye sockets as he passed out cold on the bed. Hoseok was nothing less than alarmed because as much as Seokjin suffered, he hadn't lose his consciousness once during those "fits", as they've called it. However, he knew better than calling the paramedics out of panic because it was not like medicine would be able to help a person hurting because of the soulmate bond. He could only dab away the cold sweat still on Seokjin's forehead, and pray silently that he would wake up later.

As for Hoseok himself, he was lucky enough to have a soulmate who knew how to take care of themselves very well. There was barely any pain he would have to endure from his soulmate, only the occasional scrapes on the knees or the mild aching of his muscles that probably resulted from the person playing sports. And that didn't interfere with his occupation either, unlike Seokjin who was held back in school because he took too many sick leaves all thanks to his soulmate.

Hoseok was relieved when Seokjin's breathing went down to normal rate, and the creases between his eyebrows disappeared as he fell into more of a restful sleep. "That lucky douchebag should've never deserved him," Hoseok muttered under his breath.

The door was slightly pushed open once again and Yoongi poked his head in before opening the door wider and came in. "Soulmate issues again?" He gestured at Seokjin, and Hoseok nodded sadly. "It's more intense today, though, he passed out." Hoseok explained to Yoongi.

"Does his soulmate even know his existence?" Yoongi asked as he pulled out two cups of instant noodles at the table near the window. "I mean, if the soulmate's asthma cured itself when they turn 16, they should be aware of it." Steam rose into the air as Yoongi poured hot water into the two cups, closed the lids and joined Hoseok by Seokjin's bed.

"Frankly, I'm concerned about him, Yoongi." Hoseok said. "This is the second year he's been held back, and he's visited at least thrice every week. He's almost our age you know! If that bastard didn't hold him back he would've been in college by now." Yoongi nodded in agreement. "I would like to personally find the douchebag and strangle them if I can," he added. "Also, guess what? I think I found mine already."
