I had a full schedule this year, and I wasted no time getting to class early to secure a good seat. After all, I wanted to be able to pay attention.

I walk into my first class and sit down in the fourth row. Not too far away, but not too close. Not too long after I sit down and get set up, a girl sits down next to me.

"Hi!" she said, obviously very happy.

"Hey," I said. I was no morning person, and thought that a 10am class would be late enough in the morning. Boy, was I wrong. I had slept until nine and was still groggy.

"I'm Ashley," she said, holding out her hand.

"Madalyn." I replied, grasping her hand and shaking it. I took Ashley in. Ashley was short, like me, only I might be a little taller for once in my life. But the chances of that are... well, very low. She had short curly brown hair.

"Well, nice to meet you, Madalyn." She released my hand finally, and I  managed to hit my elbow on the seat in the process of retracting my own hand. I winced a little bit.

"Are you okay?" she sounded really concerned over me bumping my elbow.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Just then, the professor walked in, and I realized that many more students had filed in as well. There were some people on my left side, too. I faced forward, looking at the person next to me out of the corner of my eye. He had short brown hair, and brown eyes. I quickly shifted my gaze as I saw his eyes wander my way. I opened my notepad, and pulled out a pen, ready to take notes.

"Please pull out whatever you are going to take notes on," called out the professor. "You won't need much else today." I put my other stuff in my bag.

"I'm Mr. Raydin. It's on the board, along with your homework assignment. He pointed to the board on the right of the class. "This is where it will be every day, along with it's due date." I wrote that down in the front cover of my notebook so I wouldn't forget. He continued to talk all through class, and the girl on my right fell asleep while sitting up. How is that possible? I shrugged it off, turning my attention back to the professor. When the professor dismissed class I shook her awake.

"Ashley," I called softly. I shook her harder. "Ashley!" She jolted awake.

"I didn't fall asleep, did I?"

"Yeah, you did."

"Crap!"

"You can borrow my notes, I'll send them to you" I said, smiling. "You just need to give me your number. I pulled out a pen, and held out my arm. I was tapped on the shoulder, and turned just my head, so Ashley could write on my arm.

"Hey," said the boy who had sat next to me.

"Hi,"

"Bryce, nice to meet you."

"I'm Madalyn." I said.

"That's a nice name."

"Thanks.

"I hope I'm not being to forward," he paused. Uh oh. "But do you want to go out sometime?" he asked. You know, why not?

"Sure. How about coffee before class Wednesday?"

"Sounds great." He turned, then turned back around. "Where's your dorm?"

"Oh, I'm in an apartment with my best friend."

"Oh okay, do you want to meet up at a coffee place then?"

"Sure, there's a Starbucks near my apartment."

I felt the pen stop scribbling on my arm. I turned my head.

"I'll get those to you by tonight," I said to Ashley, bringing my arm down to my side. She dropped my pen in my bag. "Thanks for your number, and see you Wednesday." I called as she walked out of the row.

"See you then!" she called over her shoulder, almost missing the next step down. I giggled, and turned my head around.

"Can I get your number?" asked Bryce.

"Sure." I grabbed the pen Ashley just used and wrote my number on his wrist, out of most people's line of sight. I started walking to my next class.
