Clouds dominated the morning sky leaving transitory patches between each. The rising sun attempted to peek through the hazy screen of clouds, but instead painted the sky an elaborate mix of bloodied reds and vibrant oranges, intertwined with the smoky greys that permeated the skyward canvas. Usually, Aurelia would completely miss the colours of morning. Either she was inside getting ready for work, or she was forcing herself to get at least a few hours sleep. This time, however, she was already at her desk by the time the clouds covered any masterpiece the sun tried to make.
This time she had purposely left some of her work to do when she got there, just so she had something to preoccupy her mind other than checking the clock every twenty seconds. She scanned the top piece of parchment, noting the large red stamp spelling the word 'clear' at the top corner. This incedent had already been dealt with, all she had to do was read through it for any holes in the story they gave to the No-Maj population.
'Name: Henry Shaw Jr.
Status: Deceased
Cause: Attacked by an Obscurial.November 12, 1926. 4:15 am.
The memory of all who attended the rally for Mr. Shaw's re-election has been wiped, however, the severe state of his corpse requires either explanation or removal.November 14, 1926. 1:26 pm.
After 2 days we've managed to smooth out the cracks on his face, but Mr. Shaw's body is in too grievous a state for such enchantments to work. This should, hopefully, not be a problem if we give a fake coroners report.Statement to be given to the public.
We regret to inform you all that our most beloved Senator, Mr. Henry Shaw Jr, died only two days ago. We withheld this information under the coroner's jurisdiction while he investigated the body. Now, we can confirm that it wasn't the bullet that killed him. After being shot with a Semi-Automatic Pistol (Browning Model 1922) Mr. Shaw suffered a stroke that, unfortunately, killed him before paramedics arrived.'Aurelia's eyes had already scanned the length of the report before they snapped back up. Attacked by an Obcurial? That couldn't be right... They were so rare that they were practically unheard of. To have an Obscurial half way across the globe was dangerous, but having one in New York was a disaster. She absent-mindedly moved it to the side, finding no fault in the story, but head still ringing with the knowledge that there was an Obscurial loose in the city.
"Miss Danvers." A voice suddenly echoed through the office, carrying into every cubicle though none but Aurelia turned. There stood her boss, beard newly combed and hair slicked back. He looked oddly formal compared to how he usually presented himself.
"Yes, sir?" She answered, gaze wandering to the woman beside him. Aurelia had never seen her before, but she got the impression that no one could forget her if they did. Her hair lay black and poker straight, yet soft, moving like prairie grass in a non-existent wind. Her eyes were as black as night shadows on deep waters, and her skin was the shade of smooth mahogany. To state that she was merely beautiful would be like saying fire is hot, it didn't come close to describing her entirely.
