Author's Note: People probably aren't interested anymore, but the new film cured my writer's block! (small spoilers ahead) 😂 obviously it won't follow the events completely because this story was made before I knew what was going to happen, but I'll try and intertwine some of it.

Ever since Credence's visit Aurelia had been watching over Modesty... but she was getting worse. Even Queenie couldn't seem to control the girl's fear. Every time her magic appeared it fed her hatred for it.
Aurelia had only seen two incidents, but both scarred Modesty away from accepting her gifts. The first happened around dinner time. Queenie had tried to use magic around her, hoping she'd become use to it, but as soon as the plate had floated towards her the girl was so terrified that all the lights in the house blew up. Her eyes had gone pure white for barely a second before she ran to her room.
The second happened when she was outside playing with a few of the other kids in the neighbourhood. They had accidentally sent a ball dashing toward her face, and it froze in mid-air, only inches from her nose. The neighbourhood kids had to have their memories wiped.
"This isn't working, El." Queenie sighed, scrubbing a large coffee stain out of the carpet. "The poor thing is more scared of magic than ever."
Aurelia was leaning against the nearby doorway, arms crossed and teeth biting into her bottom lip. "Then what are we supposed to do? Just give up on her?"
"You know that's not what I meant." She said in a sorrowful tone. She and Jacob had been fighting a lot of late, mainly about marriage, and she certainly wasn't in the mood to start another argument with someone else. "You're just frustrated that you might not be able to keep your promise to Credence."
Queenie's words hit Aurelia square in the chest. She was right, as usual, but that didn't mean that she had to say it out loud... Aurelia gave a heavy exhale and slumped into a nearby chair. Taking care of Modesty was proving extremely taxing, especially now that she had been scarred by the mere thought of magic. It made everything much more difficult, and though it wasn't the young girl's fault that she felt traumatised, it was becoming exhausting just trying to speak with her.
"We'll keep trying." Queenie gave Aurelia a comforting smile. It usually succeeded in making the other blonde feel a little more at ease, but this time it did nothing.
Aurelia managed to nod in response but her mind was elsewhere. It was on Credence, and on the fear that constantly sat in the pit of her stomach. She didn't know how to save him...but she needed to. She owed him that much.
Biting her bottom lip anxiously, Aurelia pushed herself back up from the chair. It gave a quiet squeak at the sudden movement then the armrests shivered and readjusted themselves. It was fortunate that Modesty hadn't been there to see that...
