The guilt was like gasoline in Aurelia's guts. Her insides died slowly in the toxicity, needing no more than a spark to set it ablaze. The fire burnt her out so badly that there was nothing left but a shell, an outline of a person for the next few days. She had always harboured this guilt but it had been leaking to the surface more than she was use to of late.

Aurelia already knew why. For most of her teenage years she had accepted that she could do nothing for Credence. After so many failed attempts she just gave up, she told herself she would only make it worse. Maybe that was true, but it still stung every time she thought of it.

Aurelia kept thinking about what she could have done differently, and how she could have prevented the tortures he had faced. Still, she couldn't think of anything. Perhaps she was never cut out to be anything but a disappointment. This was not thought in disdain, or in self-hatred, it was just the cold truth. She was only human. She could only do so much before it started to seem pointless.

Her gaze fell to the pile of work she still had to sort through, giving a heavy sigh at the sight of it. She had only found two documents so far with any necessary information. She doubted that she'd find more. Any other damages or incidents this Obscurial had caused would have already been sorted through.

At this point she had four options. Ring Eartha and set a time to meet up, go back through the files to make sure she didn't miss anything, skip out on both to go see Credence, or stay in bed. The last option was tempting. Though she barely slept, her bed was comfortable enough that it didn't matter. Still, she decided to not give in to the addiction she had to her bed.

Aurelia searched through the top draw of her bedside table, and underneath a large pile of junk, was a rarely used candlestick telephone. The design was quite tall, with a transmitter at the top and a receiver that had to be held up separately. She quickly plugged it in, grabbing the small card near her handbag before dialling the number.

Aurelia secured her finger onto one of the holes and dragged the wheel over to the numbers she wished to call. It was a miracle that she even knew how to use this contraption at all. No-Maj's had invented it less than sixty years ago, but she still had trouble understanding how they achieved it without magic. In fact, that was something she always wondered about. Aurelia herself had grown up in a No-Maj home, and then orphanage, until she was eleven but after so many years of using magic it got hard to remember what life was like without it.

The phone's receiver was placed near her ear where she could already hear the loud ringing. This was ended with an abrupt click and soft breathing coming from the other end.

"Eartha?" Aurelia said anxiously, every passing second without an answer only heightening her nervousness.

"Oh, Aurelia! Is that you?" The Auror's voice finally came through, barely audible through the static.
