The phone began to ring and I ran to answer it. "This is Rhonda Bynes of Newport County Schools to say that school is canceled tomorrow due to in-climate weather. Thank you."
My squeals of excitement could be heard throughout the house. Maybe even throughout the neighborhood. My siblings came rushing in. "IS SCHOOL CANCELED!?"
"YES!!!"
"THANK GOODNESS!!!" They said before they ran off to either tell mom or play video games. I, being the not socially awkward child got on the group chat to text my friends. It went a little bit like this:
Me: SCHOOLS CANCELED 😀
Leah: IKR IM SO EXCITED
McKinnon: We should have a sleepover
Me: Yeah! I bet we could have it at my house
Jenna: It hasn't started snowing yet so our parents could drive us
Claire: My mom might not let me in case the roads get bad
Me: Convince her. I'll go get my mom-Ok maybe it was a LOT like that. I ran to my moms room. "Hey mom!-"
"I know, I know. Schools canceled."
"Yeah so can I have a sleepover with my friends here?"
"Maybe. Text your dad. Will you guys stay out of my hair?"
"Yeah- we will. Can we get pizza?"
"We were already planning on it."
"How many would we need?"
"I don't know. 10?"
"Sounds good. I'll go check with dad."I whipped out my phone and sent a text to my dad. He was fine with a sleepover. I went on the group chat and texted all 13 of my friends. Slowly the RSVPS for my sleepover quickly rolled in. Everyone could come even if it took some convincing of their parents. Mary Brannen was bringing hot chocolate and Anna was bringing marshmallows. Leah was bringing some popcorn and McKinnon was bringing Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them. Everyone was bringing clothes, snow stuff, blankets, their phone and a sleeping bag. It was going to be lit.
I got out my speaker and started playing Blurryface. All my friends began to arrive at 5. That's when my mom told me her and my siblings were going to North Point for my dads work. They were taking the little kids but leaving George. She made sure to tell all the parents that when they dropped off their kid. They were all fine with it. Except for Liz's mom. She didn't want Liz to stay with us without a parent there. The pizza was coming at 6, and we all set up our sleeping bags in front of the movie screen. Hank and Alex were going to sleep in my brothers room with him. George was glad he wasn't the only guy.
We got out apples to apples and couldn't stop laughing. Somebody also put the most random cards. We had lost track of time until the doorbell rang. The pizza man. I took out the money my mom had given me and unlocked the door to pay for the pizza. Everyone ran to get a plate and we all grabbed a slice in a frenzy. It was silent for a split second as we all ate our pizza. I got out the 2-liters in the fridge and soon we all had cups full of soda. Except for Jenna who had plain water. We soon finished eating and decided to play some twister. Kelly won the first game and Avery won the second game. We were all tired and our throats hurt from laughing. We decided to turn on the movie.
Everyone jumped onto their sleeping bag and Hank, George and Alex sat on some beanbags I had brought in. My cats were climbing all over us. I pulled down the projector screen and put the movie in. I turned in the projector and the movie player. Courtney turned off all the lights except for the lamp on the table in the back corner. Madelyn sat to my right and Jenna sat to my left. We were all quiet after the cringy ads.
About halfway through the movie the movie and the lights cut out. We all screamed. The powers out. That reminded me of the snow. I ran to the window. "Uhhhh guys..." They all ran to look out the window with me. "OMG THATS LIKE A FOOT AND A HALF OF SNOW!"
"THATS A CRAP TON OF SNOW!"
"DID IT SNOW THAT MUCH IN AN HOUR?"
We were all super excited! Except for the fact that we had no power...
