Sorry it's all lowercase- rip
someone squealed as the lights switched off, and courtney asked, "is everyone okay?"
a chorus of answers. they were all rather loud, but no one cared. nobody else was home anyway. i held out my hand in front of me to see if i could see it, and i hit someone's shoulders . "sorry," i mumbled.
"mitta bitta!" they shouted. "stop saying sorry!" oh. it was jane.
"okay," hank said, and i turned towards his voice. "does anyone have their phone?"
a flashlight turned on, and leah waved from behind it. she put her phone in the middle of the group, and we all sat around it.
"this is a really cliche scenario," i whispered, breaking the fourth wall for a moment.
after i said that, the lights flickered, and a few of us screamed. george just kinda sat there and laughed. courtney shivered and anna forced a fake smile. "maybe it's normal."
everyone else nodded, trying to see what they wanted to see. they wanted to see this as just a normal power outage.
then the flashlight clicked off. leah tried to turn it on, and panicked. "my phone was at like, 84%! how is it dead?!"
mckinnon pulled out her phone. "hang on. i think mine has battery."
she pressed the power button, but nothing happened. "hold on."
she tried again, and her phone sparked a bit. mckinnon dropped it instinctively, and shook her head. "nobody else try."
things were starting to get a bit eery, and it seemed like everyone else knew as well, despite trying to ignore it.
"things are getting scary really quickly," madelyn said, and i nodded. i didn't really feel like talking that day, still not sure why.
the lights flickered again, but nobody did anything this time. alex talked for the first time since the snow. "so what do we do? if something is happening, we're isolated."
"is the wifi out?" claire asked.
"there's no point in checking it. nothing is working." anna said, and picked at the sleeve of her fleece jacket, and avery nodded. there was a lot of nodding that day.
"meanwhile, we have hot chocolate!" i put on a fake smile, trying to brighten everything.
then everyone told me to shut up because i was being too optimistic.
what a great way to start the sleepover.
"maybe we can get outside," kelly suggested, and everyone else agreed.
i leaped up, and followed the rest of the group towards jane's front door. hank tried to open it, and kelly shoved him out of the way. "i got this."
she pulled at the handle, but the door was locked. "someone try the back door!"
claire ran across the house, and shouted back, "locked!"
i looked around to see if anyone had any ideas, but everyone was strangely silent.
a few people started knocking loudly and shouting for help, but nobody came.
we were trapped inside.
