I sat on the floor with my knees against my chest and leaned against one of the glass walls. In front of me sat Jennifer, similar to me, hugging her knees and looking at me. If it weren't for the huge wall separating us I would be sitting right next to her, holding her.
But I couldn't.
"What time is it?"
Michael's soft voice interrupted my self pity and I looked at him before glancing on the watch on my wrist.
"2.35."
"Weird. The guards should have found us by now. I mean, Ashton's shift is over." Michael mumbled and stood up. "And honestly, we can't do much until one of the staff members find us."
I let out a sigh and leaned my head back against the cold glass. Yes, Michael was right. The glass was bullet proof and to enter you needed one of those ID-patches that the staff walked around with.
I glanced towards the staircase in hope to hear or see any sign of a staff member walking in on us, but no. Fuck, we really needed one of those guys, like, right now.
Suddenly it hit me.
The man I killed on our way here. He must still be lying on the floor under us if no one's here yet.
"Michael, the guy we killed."
"Who?"
"The one downstairs, right before we got to the staircase!"
"The one in red shirt?"
"Yes, no? I don't fucking know! It doesn't matter." I quickly placed my palms against the stone floor and pushed my self up on my feet.
"Fine, what about him?" Michael continued and rolled his eyes.
"Maybe he's still down there."
"Wait, are you planning to walk down all those horrible steps that took us ages to overcome to get to a dead man that doesn't matter to us?" I nodded my head and raised my eyebrow, but all Michael did was to widen his eyes and shake his head no.
"Na-ah, you will never get me to walk those stairs again. No."
"Not even if he might have one of those Id-passes that we need to get to Jenn and Em?" I said and looked at a dumbfounded Michael who looked at me with tired eyes.
He closed his eyes and bend his head backwards so it collided with the glass wall behind. With a loud groan he nodded his head. Even if he was all for the plan he didn't move a muscle.
"Well, are you coming?"
"Hmmm..." He mumbled. I rolled my eyes and ran my hands through my sweaty hair frustrated.
"Now? Michael, we're wasting time! It's already 2:37."
"If I got a dollar for every time you yell at me, I'd be a millionaire."
"If I got a cent for every time you are a lazy ass, I'd be a billionaire." I fired back and took out my gun to count the bullets in it and see if I needed a reload.
"Rude." Michael muttered, still sitting on the floor with closed eyes. I sighed loudly and glared at him.
"Fine, I go and you watch the girls." I said and placed the gun inside my belt again and pointed my index finger at Michael who finally opened one of his eyes and raised his eyebrow. With a small groan he bend his head forwards and nodded his head yes.
"I might be into that." He smiled goofy at me and I couldn't help but to roll my eyes once again. We're out on a dangerous mission and all he do is sit back down and smile like- like- I don't know what.
I gave him a small nod and turned my back towards him and began walking down the cold and empty hallway. Once again, everything I could hear was my footsteps that bounced against the walls and into my ears. It didn't really annoy me, but I'd rather meet someone so I could get that damn Id-patch.
------------------------------------------------
Only a few minutes later I was halfway down the stairs. I realised that Michael was right; this was hard work walking up and down the stairs, but something inside made me keep on walking even though.
Everything about this stupid mission was taking its toll on me. I was so tired of everything and I just wanted to get everyone home safe and sound and put down the weapons for good.
But I knew I couldn't.
Even if Luke promised me.
I sighed and felt the sweat of my back run down and it made me frown. Only a few steps and turns left and then I'd be there.
One turn.
Two turns.
And...
There he was; lying on his side with his eyes wide open. I walked up to him and bend down to research him. Crazy is that I'm not even creeped out while looking at him and touching his cold heavy arm. It's sad that I am used to it. A kid like me shouldn't have this kind of childhood.
But this life chose me, not the other way around.
"Where..." I muttered over and over again as my hands went digging inside the pockets of his jacket and jeans, but nothing was to be find.
What the hell?
I turned him over and began feeling down his legs if he had any kind of gun och weapon, but I didn't find any kind.
He didn't have any guns, he didn't have an ID, not a bulletproof west either.
"What are you doing here then?" I muttered for myself as I stood up and looked at the dead body.
"FREEZE!" Someone yelled behind me. I was just about to turn around and pick up my gun when a strong arm was wrapped around my throat and pulled me backwards.
I tried to gasp for air, but his bicep pressed against my throat and choked me. My eyes went wide as I waved my arms around and tried to hit him, but the more I punched, the harder his grip around my throat got.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't Calum Hood." A voice said from behind and I directly recognized the awful voice of Dave. "You know, you're not as smart as you think you are." He chuckled and the blood inside my veins began to boil even more.
"What? Did they kick you out from the little club of yours? That's why you wander around alone?"
I could imagine his grin.
The man holding me down turned me around to look at Dave. He had a few bruises on his cheekbone and some blood running down his lip.
"Not to mention, you knocked Ashton out." He said and shook his head. "What happened to brothers for life?"
"He deserved it. He broke that promise once he led Em into your trap, dick." I choked. My sight got even more blurry and small dots or shadows circled in front of me. I was suffocating.
"Oh, you think that was his first move? You really are pathetic, Hood."
"Wh-What do you..... Mean..."
"Ashton has been with us from the start."
Suddenly a loud bang echoed through the hallway and I fell down to the floor...
... unconscious.
