Chapter 7
I turned around slowly, facing Xavier. "Babe?" I ask him, confused. "Yeah, Kyles?" He responds, looking worried. "That note you gave me? Where is it?" I whisped into his ear. He shrugs, then says, "Didn't you see it in your bag? Check again." I opened up my tote bag, and scrambled around frantically. "What the hell?!" I screeched. "It's not here, Xavier..." I heard someone giggling behind me. I whirled around. Shit, I knew that laugh. "Serena...That psychotic little...!!!" I mumbled under my breath. Feeling Xavier place his hand on my shoulder, I turned around to face him again. "Hey, babe." He whispered in my ear. "It's okay. Come on. Let's just go." I looked at him. "Are you crazy? You said you wrote my entire schedule and my locker number and combination on there!"
He shrugged nonchalantly, then tried to steer me away from Serena, out the door. "Big deal. You go get a new lock, replacement schedule and tell Serena to back off." I stop suddenly and he gets yanked back, almost losing his balance, but straightens up quickly. "Okay, new lock I can handle, but replacement schedule? Someone out there already know not only my locker COMBINATION but all my classes too!" I shriek. "And knowing my luck, that someone would be Serena..." I muttered under my breath. To say that I was not freaking out about this would be an understatement. "Just chill, okay Kylie?" He asked me, throwing his arms up in the air. I scowled at him, but kept my mouth shut. I guess he had a point... I WAS kind of overreacting...Not that I was going to admit it to him, anyways.
"This wouldn't have happened if..." I started, then stopped. Did I really want to make this argument worse? "This wouldn't have happened if what, huh Kylie?" Xavier pressed, as he stopped walking and stared at me. I shrugged nervously, then continued. Hesitantly, I started to explain. "Well, as I was saying..." "Just spit it out, Kylie!" Xavier yelled. I shrank back against a wall of lockers, mildly terrified. He'd never EVER yelled at me before. With a burst of courage, I faced him again, then spat out. "This wouldn't have happened if you didn't put that friggin note in my schoolbag! Then I wouldn't have lost a note that I barely knew about!" I yelled at him, pissed because he was being such a jerk. He scowled at me, but didn't say anything. He knew I was right...I think.
Holly and Mina approached us with worried looks on their faces. "Hey, is everything alright here?" Holly asked me. I nodded numbly, staring at Xavier. He was staring at the ground, his expression angry, his hands balled up into fists. I flinched when I saw this, this was a new side to him that I've never seen before. "Xavier..." I whispered to him. "Please stop. I hate it...well actually, I've never seen you this angry, and I hate it." He only stared at me blankly. I felt so upset, I had caused this monster. "Xavier..." I tried again, placing my hand on his arm. He stared at it, then brushed me off, scowling. I watched helplessly as he glared at me then walked away.
"Xavier! For god's sake, stop being such an asshole!" I yelled after him. He stopped in his tracks. "A asshole..?" He mumbled, turning on his heel and walking towards me again. His strides were confident, arrongant, bordering on the line of menacing and terrifying. I took a step back as he neared me, and he smirked. "What did you call me?" He asked me. "You heard me!" I said. He just smirked. "Asshole." I muttered, and instantly his rage picked up again. "An asshole, huh? Well, what would you say defines an asshole?" He stated, calm as ever. "Someone who..." I started, then glanced at my friends, who were witnessing the whole thing.
I cleared my throat. "Someone who cheats on his girlfriend, constantly tells her what to do, and pays more attention to other girls instead of her!" He smirked again, then responded. "Look, babe." He leaned forward and I flinched, stepping back instinctively. "I'm sorry if I was acting stupid, childish, or a jerk, but I'm having a rough time, okay?" I shook my head. Unbelieveable. "Un-freaking-believeable" I muttered under my breath.
"Well babe..." Xavier pauses, looking at his watch. "I better get going now. See you around?" I grit my teeth. "I'm not your 'babe'." I say, holding up my fingers for an air quotation. His smile dissapears. "We're done. " He finishes, walking away. He stops suddenly, and turns around. "Oh and Kylie?" I stare at him blankly. "You really have to stop being so jealous of other people."
