Chapter 20
I walk home from school, thinking about the days' events. Scott trying to pull me back in, Trey refusing to let it happen... Although, Trey was my boyfriend, of course he'd do that, anyways. I put the key in the lock of my door and then walk in. "How was school, sweetie?" I flinch at the use of the word 'Sweetie', but that was my mom for you. "Good." I respond curtly. "I'm kind of tired.." I explain to her, heading up to my room. "I think I'm gonna take a nap and then do my homework later." "As long as you remember your chores." My mom chides me. "Yeah mom, whatever." I head upstairs and change into a pair of grey Abercrombie and Fitch sweatpants and my blue hoodie. I lay on the bed for a while and check out new stories on Wattpad. Within minutes, I'm fast asleep.
Later that night
"You hang up!" A pause. "No, you hang up!" Another pause. "No, YOU hang up!!!" I sigh in frustation, looking up from my algebra homework. "Stacey. Do you really have to do this right now?" I ask her. I had woken up at about 4, due to Jake's complaining about doing his homework, and mom's insisting that he should, otherwise she's take away his Ipod. That led to a breakdown from Jake, Stacey screaming at all of us, and my mom being more stressed out that ever. After that, I couldn't fall asleep again, so now I'm sitting in the den on the window seat, trying to figure out that if 4x3(85)3+53-4=n then will the answer be higher or lower than 25+37-6+34= n? I know, confusing right? It doesn't help that Stacey is right beside me, having one of those stupid couple kind of arguments with her boyfriend. "Shut up twerp." Stacey says, glaring at me and then goes back to the phone. "No, you hang up!" She insists, laughing. I smirk at her, as a thought pops into my head. "Babe, hang up already!"
Okay Kylie, you can do this. I smile to myself as I creep up behind her. "No, YOU hang -HEY!" Stacey snarls at me as I snatch the phone from her ear, and press the Disconnect button. "Okay, I hung up." I tell her gleefully, then hand the phone back to her. "Little brat." She spits, then stomps up to her room. "Momm!!!!!!" She yells. "I'm going out!" "With who?" My mom yells back. "Brendan!" She says, then walks out of the house. I smirk. Brendan... of course. School's best soccer player, totally hot senior, and Stacey's newest boyfriend. They'd only been going out for a few days, and yet totally perfect for each other. Well, at least that's what I'd heard, anyways. "Anyways! Back to math." I remind myself, and pick up my pencil again.
I hear a squeak, then look up. Inside my flourescent orange little hamster cage, is my syrian hamster, named Hamster. Original, right? Well, we couldnt think of a name for her, and we'd been calling her hamster for the past few weeks, and the name just stuck. Hammy for short. "She's so cute!" I squeal to nobody in particular. I go over and pick her up gently. "Hi hammy!" I say enthusiastically, and bring her close to my face. Her whiskers tickle me and I laugh. "Hey sweetie." I pet her gently, her fur is so soft! A golden brown colour, with white patches of fur too.
"Kylie, put down the hamster and give me a hand with dinner, will you?" My mom says, coming down the stairs. "Okay mom." I say, reluctantly putting Hammy back in her cage and going to wash my hands. "What's for dinner?" I ask my mom as she's searching for a pot. "You'll see." She replies, and I hold back a groan. Sure, my mom is an excellent cook and all, but sometimes her recipies got a little boring. Boring as in, she made the same thing basically every meal. Nothing really different.
"Hand me that can over there." She instructs. "Okayyy..." I say slowly, dragging the words out. I pick up the can. "Cream of Mushroom?" I stare at her. She ducks her head and takes the can, opens it and pours it into the pot. "So I'm trying something new." She mutters defiantly. "Sue me." I laugh, holding up my hands, showing her that I meant no harm at all. "Look, that's fine, mom! Whatever you make, I'm sure that it will taste amazing." She nods, and I know that I'm not completely forgiven, so I add. "Hey, how about I whip up some milkshakes?" She smiles at me. "Sure. Strawberry banana please." "Milkshakes!!!!!" My brother yells, running down the stairs at top speed. "Very berry, please." I laugh. "Okay little dude." I ruffle his hair, and start on the milkshakes. The secret to my success? My Magic Bullet. I swear, I cannot live without that thing!
