Chapter 21

“Hi. Sorry I'm late.” I gasp as I run into my house, out of breath. My mom, dad and siblings race to my side. “What?” I ask them. I check the time. 6:00.  I'm immediately bombarded by a thousand questions. “We were worried sick!” “How come you didn't tell us where you went!” “Why did you leave?” “Guys!” I yell. “Calm down. I can't hear all of you at once.” “Where were you?” My mom demands. I stare at her. “Haha very funny guys. Mom, I told you that I went for a walk.” “You never told me anything young lady! To think that you were to go out at this hour... ” I almost laugh, but strain to hold it in. “Mom. I clearly remember telling you that I was going for a walk. AND...” I hold up my finger to stop her, because it looked like she was about to interrupt me. “You could've just texted me. Or called. Whichever. Did you? No. All your text said was: Come home now. Dinner.” She starts to respond, then falters. “Don't talk to your mother that way!” My father booms. “Why not? You do all the time. Stacey went out too!”

“Yes, but Stacey actually told us where she was going. And what time she'd be back.” My mom says coolly. This pisses me off even more. “But it's not like you guys actually care, right? You just wanted me home so that you could start eating already.” I snap, eyeing the food on the table, slowly becoming colder and colder.  As soon as it's out of my mouth, i regret it. Everyone stares at me in utter shock. “Mom, dad, I-” I start to apologize. “Dinner.” My dad says firmly. That's the end of that conversation... We all sit down at the dinner table and start to eat. “Who were you out with, anyways?” Stacey asks me, a gleam in her eye. “No one! I was just taking a goddamned walk and ran into-” I stop myself before I can utter the next words,\

They won't like it if I told them that I ran into Trey. I mean, yeah, he asked my mom where I was earlier, but my mom probably expected him to go home, not look for me. “Who?” Jake asks. “No one.” I mutter again, my cheeks turning red. “Ooo!” Jake crows. “You probably ran into that Scott guy!!!! Your boyfriend!” I shoot him a death glare. My dad's fork clatters on his plate, and my mom's jaw drops open. “Ew. Your boyfriend?” Stacey asks me with pure disgust. “He's an idiot.” “I know! Total dickhead asshole.” I confirm. “And Jake? No, I didn't see him!!! God!” “Language.” My da warns. I ignore him. “We're going on a field trip. Swimming. At that indoor pool near the skating rink? We're walking.” I go to my bag a fish out the permission form. On Friday. 1 day to hand it in.” I start loading my dishes in the dishwasher. “You're done?” My mom asks in bewilderment. “You barely ate anything!” “Not hungry.” I shrug, then go upstairs. I check the time. 6:30. Then I texted Trey.

Kylie: Hey, can I hang @ ur place? Parents r pissed, don't ask. Plz?

A few minutes later he texted back

Trey: Sure babe. What time?

Kylie: 6:55. Is that ok?

Trey: Yup. Cya then xoxo

Kylie: Ok xoxo

I wait about until 6:50, when my parents are in the den watching TV, and my siblings in their rooms. I grab my side bag, stuff my phone, IPod, headphones and IPod charger into it. I don't bother saying bye to my parents, telling them where I'm going, or what time I'll be back. Probably a bad move on my part, considering the incident that occurred under half an hour ago, but they probably realized how pissed I was. Usually when we have blow ups like this, I just hangout in my room for the rest of the night. They don't check up on me or anything, so I guess that I'll be fine. I run all the way to Trey's house, about 10 houses down from mine, and ring the doorbell. “Hey Kyles.” Trey greets me at the door and I wrap my arms around him, embracing and welcoming his scent, his body. I reach up to kiss him, like I should have kissed him earlier today, when I had run into him while walking.
