(Dedicated to the sweetest lil bean: sibanshee )

Joan Leland sat in a cell in a chair across from a woman.

A blonde woman with pigtails.

Her patient.

Harley Quinn.

She was sitting quietly in her metal chair, balancing on two legs, holding the side of the metal table with her hand to keep herself from falling forward. She stared at her intensely. Leland had been getting on her nerves. Instead of finding another doctor like Harley had asked politely for, she decided to take things into her own hands. It was a challenge for sure, but Leland knew Harley. Her former colleague. Harleen Quinzel. The two women stared at each other in silence. The hatred in Harley's big blue eyes was clearly apparent, but Joan remained friendly.

"Do you miss him?" Joan asked calmly.

"Who? My old doc? Nah. He was boring. Waayy too handsy if ya get what I mean." Harley crossed her arms and leaned even farther back in her chair. "Harleen, you killed him." Joan said bluntly. Harley scowled at the use of her full name. "He got what he deserved!" Harley replied. "He was only making sure you weren't carrying any weapons." Joan answered back. "Yeah? Well his right eye found out that answer now didn't it? And his other eye.. and his chest, and his brain." Harley smiled smugly. There was no point in continuing this argument. It would go on for days. "This isn't about Doctor Brown. This is about Joker." Leland watched Harley go into deep thought. "Why would you miss, let alone love a man who hurts you?" Her words had no effect on Harley. She'd heard this all before.

"He has his reasons.." the blonde replied softly.

"What are those reasons, Harleen? What on earth could you possibly do to deserve anything that scummy man puts you through?" She watched the smug look on Harley's face vanish. "Does that bruise feel like a kiss?" She motioned towards the black and blue welt on Harley's pale chest. "Does that cut give you butterflies in your stomach?" She watched as Harley felt the healing wound on her chin. "Is that what love is like? Joker isn't capable of love, Harleen. He's a cold man who has not an ounce of morals or regret. Do you understand how many innocent people have been killed because of him? Families? Children?" Harley's heart pounded harder and faster with each sentence that came out of Joan's mouth.

"He is a worthless, cruel-"

"Broken man." Harley choked out. "He's broken, Joan. You have no idea what you're talking about." Her voice was quiet, yet powerful. "Everyone sees him laugh. Everyone sees him smile." She continued. "But i'm the only one who will ever see him cry." Harley slammed her chair forward, causing Joan to jump. "And he does not need fixing." She glared at the woman in front of her who looked taken aback by this whole situation.

"He needs someone to be there for him. A shoulder to cry on. And i'm that someone despite all the bullshit I go through. I do it for him. Because without me, his world would crumble. Even he knows that.."

Harley and her clown prince were fast asleep. Joker had made a large gap between them. Despite her efforts, Harley would always be denied when it came to cuddling. On very rare occasions Joker would allow it. Tonight was not one of those occasions.

Harley was awoken from her slumber when she felt Joker twitch. She opened up her eyes and rubbed them when she felt him twitch again. "Puddin'?" She whispered. Joker started to whimper. He grasped his pillow and held it tight. His breathing became erratic. Harley watched him in awe. Sure, the twitching was normal, but he didn't sleep very much. When he did, he would usually knock out. She'd never seen him like this and she absolutely hated it.

"Jeannie..." he whimpered.

Harley froze. She watched a single tear roll down his cheek. "I'm so sorry, my love." He cried out. Harley's eyes widened. He repeated himself over and over. More and more tears spilled out of his eyes. Harley became desperate for him to stop. She quickly closed the distance between them and held his face in her hands. "Mistah J.. i'm here, Puddin'.." Joker pulled her even closer and sobbed into her hair. She wasn't entirely sure he was awake, but she didn't want to disrupt him. This was exactly what he needed. Release.

Joker held everything in, and when he did it was like a ticking time bomb. And when he was set off, he did things he couldn't control.

Harley wrapped her arms around her lover. She stared at the bruises and cuts down her arms. He gave her those. He had no sense of control over his own life. His mind was a prison. Harley shut her eyes and let her own tears pour out. This man had been through so much. He had revealed more than she had ever expected him to, and that meant the world to her. She'd spent years trying to get him to open up. From her very first session, to the day he broke down and dropped to his knees, crying into her stomach. From then on Harley vowed to never leave his side.

The words she said when she gave herself to him echoed in her head.

"I'll never leave you, Mistah J. No matter what. I love you for who you are. Your scars are mine, and my heart is yours."

She meant every word, and there wouldn't be a day she'd take it back.

She pulled away briefly to plant a kiss on his lips. Joker let one more tear fall before nestling his head into her neck. He held her tightly, as if he were about to lose her for the rest of his life. Harley ran her hands through his hair lovingly. She let out a sigh of relief when she felt his grip on her loosen a few minutes later. He had finally returned to his peaceful sleep.

"I love you.." she whispered.

"You may question me. There isn't a person who doesn't." Harley never lost eye contact with Leland.

"But don't you dare think i'll ever abandon him."

(Just to clarify, Doctor Brown is completely made up. None of this is canon. #ripbrownie)
