------> Becca's sad :'(
***
No one made eye contact with me as I blindly stumbled into the room. My mother's body was lying in the centre, limp. I would have thought she was dead if I hadn't heard the faint sound of her heartbeat and the quiet sound of her shallow breaths.
I collapsed down by my father's side, tears leaking from my eyes.
"Why the fuck are you just standing there?" I yelled to the room in general. "Go get the doctor! An ambulance. Anything!"
At my words, it was like the spectators snapped out of a trance. There was a rush of movement as people rushed to the door in search of the royal pack doctor. I saw people on their phones calling for an ambulance. But it didn't matter to me. Because my mum, my dear, beloved mother, was slowly slipping away before my eyes. And there was nothing I could do to stop it.
I heard a small, familiar little sob. I slowly turned to see Matty, bless his poor heart, staring in horror at Mum's body. Xander was just standing beside him, a look of shock on his face. Like he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
"Mummy!" Matty cried, running towards Mum's body at top speed. I stopped him when he went to run past me, ignoring his struggles to get free from my hold as I picked him up and carried him out the room. "Let me go Becca! Mummy needs me! She needs me!" he shouted, thrashing wildly in my arms, legs and elbows jabbing into my sides. His actions just made my heart break further.
Ignoring the spikes of pain his fighting caused, I continued out the room, searching through the chaos for someone who i could trust with him. I needed to get back in there!
"Becca!" a voice called from behind me. I turned my head, smiling slightly when I saw Ethan jogging to catch up to me.
"Ethan," I greeted, wondering what he wanted.
"Becca, go back inside. I'll look after little Matthew."
My eyes watered at the offer. "Thank you. You have no idea how much that means to me." Ethan gave a little bow of respect.
As I transferred the still struggling Matty onto Ethan, I heard Ethan murmur soothing words.
"Shhh little man, your mummy will be fine. It's all going to be okay. Hush hush, don't cry. Do you think your mummy would want to see you sad?" I watched as Matty's thrashing slowly began to weaken, until at last, he slumped into Ethan's arms, exhausted. Ethan threw me a wink over Matty's head as he began to walk with him upstairs. I smiled at them before quickly making my way back to my mother.
In my absence, an ambulance had arrived. Mum was currently strapped to a gurney, one of those weird masks on her face. Dad was standing beside it, glazed eyes never leaving my mother's form. I could tell that he was out of it, not really paying attention to his surrounding, not caring of anything but my mum. And I didn't blame him. They were amors, or what was commonly referred to as mates. Once you mated, they became your entire world. Your only purpose in life was to make them happy.
I went and stood beside Xander, who still stood frozen in shock. A few people were still dotted around the room.
"What are you still doing here?" I yelled at them, glad to be able to release some of my anger in such a way. "Show's over. Now get the fuck out!"
The few remaining spectators gave me a look of fear before slowly filing out through the wrecked doorway. They were followed by the gurney and my robotic father. I went to go with them, but a hand on my arm held me back.
"Xander, let go! I need to go with them!" I cried, trying to wriggle my way free. He didn't budge.
"Becca, we need to stay here. The Kingdom needs us to still be strong in the midst of this. Dad's in no state to take charge, so it falls to you and I. You know that." He voice was calm, empty.
