"What the fuck?" I muttered, scowling. Someone had probably just spilt their drink on someone's dress. That usually elicited screams from women as materialistic as some of those women down there. It was just a dress for crying out loud! Easily replaceable...

But as soon as I opened the door, the scent of blood wafted to my sensitive nose. I felt my wolf stir within me, felt fear burst in my chest. My family was down there! Zola was down there! My eyes flickered to the colour of my wolf, a much lighter blue than my own, almost like ice.

I felt Ethan appear behind me, flanking me, silently telling me that he'd follow my lead. Slowly, I stalked out of my room, my senses on high alert. My ears continued to pick up high pitched shrieks of pain from downstairs, but now that I listened closely, I could hear the growl of wolves. The sound of skin being slashed was sickening.

Once I reached the banister that looked over the foyer, I sucked in a breath. Blood. Blood was everywhere, covering the walls, the floor, the furniture. Bodies was scattered around, torn limb from limb as they'd tried to run for their lives.

'You didn't run fast enough,' I thought darkly, fighting back the bile that rose.

Suddenly, I saw Matty and Xander running across the foyer and up the stairs, so fast it was just a flash of movement. Relief flooded through me at the sight of them both, unharmed, but worry continued to gnaw at me for my parents, Zola and pretty much everyone else down there.

"Becca!" Matty cried, giving me a hug. I bent to return the gesture, not caring that he was getting blood all over me. Hell, it could just go and mingle with the bloody drink already on there!

"Andy, what's happening?" I asked over Matty's shoulder, comfortingly rubbing his back.

"The palace is under attack," he began.

"You don't say?" I said sarcastically, making Matty giggle. I pulled back, sending him a reassuring smile before taking in our surroundings again. Something didn't feel right. It almost felt like we were being watched, so I shook off the feeling, assuming I was being paranoid. That tended to happen a lot.

Andy threw me a dirty look. "It looks like the work of a pack, possible rogues, although they seemed to organised for that. This was a planned attack. We couldn't-"

A grey wolf appeared practically out of nowhere, attacking Andy as he spoke, seeing him as the strongest out of us all. How this beast had managed to sneak up on us, I have no clue. I watched, frozen with horror as the wolf snapped its teeth at my brother aggressively before darting towards him, teeth sinking into his shoulder. Andy gave a pained cry, falling to his knees.

"Xander!" Matty cried, tears leaking from his blue eyes.

My vision turned red at the sight of my brother's royal blood being spilled. All reason left me when I heard Matty's soft cries.

With a cry, I launched myself at the wolf. I landed on its back, sending my elbow hurtling into its spine. It let out a low whine, releasing its grip on Andy. It turned to face me with a snarl.

I growled back at the monster, not intimidated. Pouncing, I changed mid-air, letting out the wolf that had been dying to get out. It felt good to finally let my wolf out, to feel the wind rushing through our white fur, to have our senses heightened even more. The shreds of my forever ruined garment fell lazily to the floor.

I landed on the wolf, teeth and claws slashing out. Malicious satisfaction coursed through me when the wolf howled in pain, dark crimson blood staining its grey expanse of fur.

While it was distracted from the pain, I sank my teeth into its neck. It instantly stilled, knowing that if it moved an inch, I'd cut its jugular. Whimpering, it lowered its head, and I let it, pleased that it knew it wouldn't win. But I didn't want its acquiescence. Not after what this monster had done to Andy. My brother.

I caught the wolf's eye for a moment, letting it see my intent, enjoying the fear that I saw in those black holes. Then, I violently began to shake my head back and forth, like a puppy chewing a new toy. I heard a little gasp, but I ignored it, focusing on the task at hand.

At last, I was rewarded for my efforts when the head came off in my teeth. The body slumped down, lifeless. I dropped the head on the floor, letting it roll away from me. I looked at the bloody mess in disgust.

Quickly, I changed back into my human form, uncaring of the cold or my nudity, only caring if my brother was alright. But first... I walked over to the head of the recently deceased.

"Don't mess with the Royals, bitch!" I whispered, spitting on its head. Now that that was out of the way...

"Andy!" I cried, running over to him. Ethan was knelt down beside him, pressing something, his jacket, I realised, to his wound, while Andy winced in pain.

"I'm fine Becca, don't worry," he told me, smiling even through his obvious pain.

"You are such an ass! You don't look fine!" Okay, whenever I was stressed, I had a tendency to lash out. But I mean, come on, did he honestly expect me to believe he was fine? I wasn't blind! Or ignorant.

"Is Andy gonna be okay?" came Matty's small voice from behind us all. We all turned to look at his trembling frame. I immediately went over to him, hugging him tightly to my naked body as he cried onto my shoulder, his tears mingling with the blood on my skin.

"Shhh Matty," I soothed, running my fingers through his hair. "Of course he'll be fine. He's Xander, remember? He's Mr Invincible!" I leaned back to kiss his forehead and wipe away some of the tears, even though more fell to replace them. "Hey, come now. There's no need for these tears! Look at him, he's talking nonsense as normal."

At that, Matty gave me a watery grin. "He'll be okay?"

Xander got there before I could reply. "Of course! You can't get rid of me that easy squirt! All I need to do is put a bandage on this, and it'll be right as rain."

I noticed that Ethan had been quiet throughout this entire exchange, silently tending to Xander's wounds.

"Ethan?"

He looked up at me, his blue eyes showing nothing but concern and kindness. "Hmm?"

"Thanks for looking after him. Where did you learn-"

An anguished howl tore through the building. It was the sound of a wolf in so much pain, so much grief, it could do nothing but mindlessly howl its depression to the moon. It was the sound of someone's heart breaking in their chest. Everyone froze at the sound.

"Retreat!" I heard a male voice yell. I saw Ethan stiffen at the sound, but paid him little attention, focusing partly on committing that wretched voice to memory, and partly on the howl. It'd sounded awfully familiar...

"Andy, that wasn't-" I began to deny, but he interrupted me.

"Becca, you know it was. We'd recognise his howl anywhere. We all would."

Ethan helped Xander to his feet when he tried to rise. I grabbed Matty's hand and we all followed the sound of an animal whining in sorrow to the dining room.

A small crowd had gathered in the doorway to watch the towering black wolf of my father howl his sorrow as he knelt beside a broken looking body. As our little crowd pushed through the one already gathered, i couldn't help but notice the destruction of the room. Couldn't help but notice that there was more blood in this room than any other. But that body...

'No. No no no. This can't be happening!' I thought as I looked closer at the body my father wept beside.

"Mum!" I cried numbly, feeling the shocked tears slapping my cheeks.
