Muriel felt excited. For once in her life her father had given her permission to do something she wanted, she was finally going to escape from the same things she saw everyday and travel to the place she'd wanted to visit since her childhood.

Only, the place that had seemed so wonderful was now in the hands of someone terrible.

Nerves were slowly beginning to gather in her stomach and her palms began to get a little sweaty. Her only task was to ride with her horse through some parts of Narnia, she had to do this without being seen. Easier said than done thought Muriel, what if they discovered her? Then there would be a war for sure.

"You look rather nervous." Her head snapped towards the stable doors where her brother Darrin stood leaning against the doorposts. "I thought you'd be somewhat more pleased. I mean you've been wanting to go on this adventure ever since you could walk."

She shrugged and Darrin walked over to her. He picked up her saddlebag and placed it behind her saddle, Muriel petted Ava's snout as she huffed. "Thanks" mumbled Muriel to her brother. Her brown eyes met his blue ones. He had his father's eyes, she had her mother's.

"What's wrong, squirt?" His tone was more serious now.

"Are you sure you can't you go with me? I'm not sure if I can do this alone."

Darrin shook his head and put his hands on her shoulders. His soft voice calmed her slightly "Listen here squirt, you're going to be fine. This is what you've always wanted, isn't it?"

"Yes, but not when there are Narnians dying. What if something terrible happens?"

"You can handle a sword better than any other man here in the castle." A smirk appeared on his face. "Well, except for me then." Muriel rolled her eyes and hit him in the arm, trying to hurt him a little. Her brother laughed at the weak attempt but rubbed his arm nonetheless. "See, you're strong. Once you come back you'll tell me all about your wonderful trip to Narnia and we will do everything we can to stop Miraz from killing all these innocent people."

Muriel smiled up at her brother and hugged him, "thanks Darrin. I'm going to miss you."

"Don't worry, sis. You won't be gone long." He let her go and patted her mare on the back. "I think Ava here would like some sugarcubes before you go."

Muriel scoffed, "she's already had five." She shook her head as Ava whined happily as Darrin fed her some extra sugarcubes. "Don't get too fat. We have a long road ahead of us."
"You're lucky you know, you get to travel and I have to stay here and do nothing. So don't spoil the fun for yourself by being all stressed, relax." Her brother bumped his shoulder against hers and chuckled, "I might even jump out of the window if I get too bored, I mean that's what you always do right?"

"Tell you what, I'll jump out a window if you find yourself a suited woman to court." Her brother raised his eyebrows, but Muriel wasn't finished. 'And with suited I mean not one of your lady-friends, but a nice sister-in-law." Darrin let out a loud laugh thinking she was joking, but Muriel crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him seriously.

"Wait? Are you serious?"

"Do you think I would make jokes about such a matter?"

"So will you jump out the window next to the wall-climbing plants or the window that looks out over the village? Although, it doesn't really matter which one you'll choose because they're both at the same hight..."

Muriel softly gasped at that, "Would you really let me jump out of the highest windows?" Her brother gave her a look that clearly said yes. She was kind of worried now, what if her brother found a suited wife. He certainly got the looks and his charms had not failed him before, but she was sure no sensible woman would fall for that and even if she did it would probably take a long time for he'd find such a woman. So she was quite sure that there was no way her brother would find someone and still remember this conversation. She extended her hand and he shook it.
"So we have a deal."

"Indeed we have."

Their attention was caught by approaching footsteps and Muriel already had an idea of who it might've been, she was right. Her brother greeted Killian as he approached the siblings.

"Hello Killian, how are you this fine morning?"

Killian grinned at the prince, "Very well, Darrin, and yourself?"

Muriel just looked at the two with a look of surprise on her face, she had never heard these two talk to each other with so much politeness.

"I'm also doing great, just sad that my little sister is moving out." He bumped his shoulder jokingly against hers and noticed the look on her face. "Surprised?"

Muriel raised one eyebrow and let her gaze shift between the two men, "since when do you two talk so friendly to each other?" The smirk on her brother's face grew as she spoke, "you two always look like you want to rip the other's head off..."

Darrin laughed and gave Killian a friendly pat on the back. "We realized that if you're gone we don't have to compete for your attention anymore, so we might as well become friends."

"Compete for my attention?"

Killian's head became as red as the tomatoes in the kitchen and it was clear that Darrin noticed because he went on with embarrassing him. "As your brother I'm supposed to look after you, that includes protecting you from all the boys that throw themselves at your feet."

It was clear to Muriel what Darrin was doing and she felt sorry for Killian, although it was kind of amusing to see Killian so embarrassed. "The only boys that throw themselves at my feet are the ones who lose a combat against me."

Darrin chuckled and ruffled her brown hair, "let's keep it that way." She fixed her hair and thought that it would be better to put it in a braid, Darrin always liked to mess it up.

"I don't have time to talk to boys anyway." And none seemed to have time for her either. Darrin snorted and pointed with his thumb to Killian. "he's a boy."

"Well yes, but that's different."

"How is that any different?"

Muriel shrugged, "I don't know okay? Killian doesn't like me that way, right Killian?" She turned her attention to the so called boy and was oblivious to the red shade that covered his cheeks.

"No, we're friends." Killian rubbed the back of his neck and send her an uncomfortable smile, he wouldn't admit that he'd always had a slight crush on her. He was afraid that it would ruin their perfect and close friendship, because he knew there was no way she liked him back.

"The best of friends, and I'm really going to miss you!" He wrapped his arms around her small waist as she hugged him. When he let go of her he noticed the sad smile Darrin send him, he knew.

"I'm going to miss you too. It's probably going to get really boring here without you and now I won't have any excuses to escape helping out in the kitchen."

Muriel laughed, "I'm sure you'll be fine. Besides, you have Darrin now."

"And you're very grateful for that aren't you." Darrin put an arm around his shoulder, "the ladies are gonna love you."

"Please don't turn him into a second you while I'm gone."

"I won't promise you anything."

Killian laughed at the siblings. They always discussed things about people like they weren't there with them, but they were. "Don't worry Muriel, that won't happen."

Muriel pulled the two into one big hug. "I'm serious guys, I don't know if I can stay away from you two for so long."

Killian shook his head and looked into her worried brown eyes. She'd only be gone for a couple of weeks, they had nothing to worry about. He squeezed her shoulders to comfort her.

"You'll be back before you know it."
