Muriel was holding her breath. Her grip on Caspian's arm had loosened, but she still didn't move away. Peter was breathing heavily, exhausted after such an intense fight. He was stil hesitating, he didn't know what to do now that Miraz was kneeling before him with a raised hand.
Even though Edmund had warned him for it, chilvary did get the best of him and Peter lowered his sword. Turning his back on his enemy to walk back to his side where Edmund, Caspian and Muriel stood. But the moment he did Miraz reached for his sword, stood up and ran at the High King.
"Look out!"
If Edmund hadn't yelled out a warning Peter would never have dodged the blow. The Narnian King grabbed Miraz' sword, twisted it and buried it in the flesh beneath Miraz' arm. The man gasped, in shock and in pain, and collapsed to his knees, clutching his wound.
Peter stood there with Miraz' sword in his hand, staring down at the man before him, and hesitated again.
"What's the matter boy? Too cowardly to take a life?"
Muriel frowned, the Telmarine had a lot of guts for mocking Peter while he was the one that was on his knees for the second time, one blow away from death. He was lucky that Peter was a noble and chivalrous king and didn't end his life out of anger.
The blond glanced over his shoulder and turned to Miraz. "It's not mine to take." Now it was clear that Peter was looking at Caspian. Muriel looked up at the prince's face and slowly released his arm. Caspian stepped forward and took the sword that Peter offered him, slowly raising it.
Miraz looked scared as he took a good look at his nephew who's father he had killed, for a moment he thought about his own wife and son. "Perhaps I was wrong. It seems you have the makings of a good Telmarine king after all."
Miraz intended those to be his last words and bowed his head to await the final blow. Caspian screamed as he slammed the sword down. But it never reached Miraz neck, instead the sword was stabbed into the ground before him.
"Not one like you," spoke Caspian as Miraz looked at the sword and then to his nephew in disbelief. "Keep your life, but I am giving the Narnians back their kingdom."
Caspian walked away after that, towards the Narnians who were cheering and smiling in joy. Muriel had to stop herself from joining their praising cheers, the big smile that appeared on her face couldn't be stopped though. She felt proud and tackled Caspian in a big embrace when he smiled at her.
But the moment of joy was short-lived.
The moment Caspian had walked away, Lord Sopespian had approached Miraz with a Narnian arrow in his hands, Susan's arrow to be precise. And when Miraz made an angry remark, the Telmarine Lord stabbed the arrow in his back. Miraz gasped and fell over one last time, the arrow sticking out of his back. The Narnians only seemed to notice when Sopespian began to yell and Muriel watched in horror as he grabbed Miraz' sword, "Treachery! They shot him! They murdered our king! To arms!"
Things moved fast after that. Lord Sopespian ran back to the side, Glozelle rode to the Telmarine army and yelled at them to charge. Soldiers on horseback rode forward with raised swords, but that wasn't what surprised Muriel the most. Without warning big rocks flew through the sky and landed around the Narnians, causing the ground to shake. Muriel watched as the trebuchets launched the rocks in fear.
The shaking of the ground made Muriel almost lose her balance, but two strong hands on her waist helped her remain standing. Muriel let out a shaky breath when she realized they had been Caspian's hands and she thanked him with a small smile. That smile quickly faltered when more rocks fell, crushing some creatures to their left.
