There was something so beautiful about the sun. It was something that only Muriel seemed to notice whenever she was outside. While other -or normal- children would complain about the brightness of the golden ball and only admire its glory at sunset, she enjoyed the sun at its highest peak.
Sure, looking to long at the sun would leave a terrible black spot in your sight, but weren't people exactly the same, some leaving a black spot in your life? If you looked past that however, the warmth and the light that the sun provided were phenomenal.
While others preferred to stare at the beautiful moon, Muriel favoured the sun. After all, wasn't it the sun that caused the moon to shine at night?
When Muriel saw the golden hue fill the hall that led to a more isolated place higher up the hill outside, she smiled. Silently greeting the morning sun in her head. The light that shone inside was accompanied by a lone shadow, when Muriel looked at the entrance she saw that it was caused by a single person sitting in the sun.
Muriel had a feeling she knew who it was and when her feet had carried her outside she saw that her assumption had been right. Sitting there on his own was Caspian. He was too focused on the sunrise to notice that Muriel was standing behind him.
Muriel studied his back for a moment. His head hung low and his shoulders were slumped, it was very obvious that Caspian felt awful.
Muriel, who discovered she didn't like seeing Caspian beating himself up about something, shuffled closer to the Prince. She tried to avoid making him jump but failed when she spoke, "I heard you refused honey from a bear."
He turned around at a surprising speed, he had not expected anyone to find him, not even Muriel. But here she was, smiling down at him. Caspian immediately felt bad again, he hadn't even talked to her after what happened, had not even tried to apologize. Little did he know that she had already forgiven him.
Caspian remained quiet as Muriel sat down next to him, leaning on his shoulder to keep her balance. The warmth of her hand made the Prince smile slightly.
"Are you feeling alright?" Asked Muriel and his smile faltered. She grimaced when she realized what she'd asked, of course he's not feeling alright, for Aslan's sake. He almost freed The White Witch last night.
"Sorry," she sighed and put her head between her hands, "that's a stupid question."
They both remained silent, pondering over her questions as they watched out over the field that lay before the How. Muriel could vaguely see Peter and Edmund cross swords as Susan escorted some Narnians towards the archery targets nearby. She didn't see Lucy but she assumed the Valiant Queen was still asleep or somewhere inside the How. Muriel found her eyes drifting back to Peter and Edmund, she couldn't wait to pick up her sword again, but she felt obliged to talk to Caspian first. So the Princess turned to him with a serious look on her face as he glanced back.
"You gave me quite a scare last night," mumbled Muriel, her fingers playing with the soft material of her dress. She glanced down at Caspian's hand, she furrowed her eyebrows slightly when she noticed the bandage around it. She carefully took his hand into her own and slowly traced the bandage with her finger, "does it hurt?"
